KF Salary No. 18 Overall, No. 6 in Big Ten

Not sure I understand how/where USA Today is getting their numbers, especially for Total Pay.

According to this article which is sourcing the state of Iowa's numbers, Kirk made over $5 mil in 2017.
I doubt very much he actually took a pay cut and his bonuses last year should have been comparable to 2017.

USA Today cited $825,000 in bonuses last year. Pretty sure Kirk gets $500,000 for 8 wins and $350,000 on Jan.1 every year for just being employed here. That already exceeds the 825 and we aren't even counting the graduation bonus and others.

Bad reporting by USA T. ? Fake news? Any insight Rob?

Click the "Methodology" link at the bottom of the USA Today thing.

Lots of info, but

"Does not include longevity and/or retention payments. Includes payments due to head coaches, regardless of whether they distributed portions to other staff."

otoh

"IOWA: School pay includes $650,000 payment that Ferentz will receive only if he remains head coach on Jan. 31, 2020."

Maybe he can apply for food stamps to help him out. :p Then there’s “Go fund me” accounts that others can start up for him and his family. Of course Kirk’s idea of that is speed dialing Barta and saying “Go Fund Me!!!” When Gary answers the phone.
Well Put. Oh more Relatives on 'payroll'

Worst contract list...worst for the program not the coach...drum-roll.....

6. Kirk Ferentz, Iowa

Total 2019 compensation: $4.8 million

Contract end date: Jan. 31, 2026

Buyout: $21.571 million

Why the school paid so much: It’s not written into state law that Ferentz will get a new contract every few years that extends out another decade, but it sure seems that way. This is Ferentz’s 21st season at Iowa, and he’s signed for six more, which means he’d be 70 when this current deal expires. Ferentz got his first big deal early in his tenure after three straight top-10 finishes as Iowa had to fight off significant interest from the NFL. They gave him a 10-year extension after the Hawkeyes went 11-2 in 2009 with a trip to the Orange Bowl. And then after 2015, when Iowa went 12-0 in the regular season and nearly beat Michigan State for the Big Ten title and a Playoff spot, he got another 10-year deal that essentially locks him in for the rest of his career.

Why it’s a bad contract: Just on principle, a 10-year contract for an older coach who is not competing at an elite level on a regular basis is a bad idea. Though Ferentz has certainly had some great moments at Iowa, it has basically been a middle-of-the-pack Big Ten program for the last decade with an occasional pop of national relevance. That’s OK for now, but if there ever comes a point where it looks like Ferentz is slipping, his contract may make it prohibitive to wind down his tenure amicably.

(I think I can post it, wasn't a pay site, credit USA Today for story)

No OldFart sighting in this thread. He should be in here telling us how Iowa should be beating everyone because of how much Iowa is paying Ferentz!!!

We see things differently. 1or2 more wins do-able.A 9 win season often. Weakest division.. Staff underachieves NOT players.Hawk Players Play Hard. Starts at Top. Opinion only.

I always find it interesting to listen to KF in these press conferences. When he starts going on about what the score would be if we had scored touchdowns instead of field goals and stuff...I think to myself...this explains why we are so shitty at managing the clock. At least he said it was better to score touchdowns. That was a relief.

Last post, 3 card monte?

I absolutely do not care what KF gets paid. In fact, I do not care what anyone gets paid. I will maintain that position until someone says to me, “I Am Overpaid.”

Honestly it doesn't make a damn bit of difference. It's what the job pays and it doesn't have any impact on the field of play at all.

But some people on here make a big deal about it and think expectations should be higher based on what you pay a coach. To me that's silly.

My Thought only! Its not the money. Its how team does. The Buck stops with him. Look at his record. Just a opinion. Win Sat. Bye and we move forward. Go Hawk Players. Always tough.

Just my 2 cents. College football, from television money to coaching salaries to new and updated ballparks to fancy amenities to merchandising, has been "professionalized". The absolute only thing that hasn't been is the "labor". Schools are thick with money. They have to spend it. If we have enough to pay Kirk $650,000 every Jan. 31st then we have enough to pay 100 scholarship football players. That bonus would give each player $6,500/year. A cost of living stipend.

It will happen eventually. The recent California bill is just the first step.

I've never seen another person get more flack for making as much money for himself as he can. The guy gives away millions of dollars each year. But by all means continue to dog him for being good at making more money, something all of us want in our own occupations. He is well worth the money to the university and the sports department. For as much money as he brings in, the guy is getting underpaid.

It is not so much the pay per say, but that we are getting Stratton Oakmont results for our return investment on the playing field. ;) Still better than the basketball program though.

For those complaining about Kirk's salary vs accomplishments. Look at Jim Harbaugh, they are second in top talent in the conference and only wins games against the little guys.
