KF on AJE's Draft Stock

In hindsight, AJ should have come back for another season. He was not going to radically improve his athletic measurables, but racking up another season of dominating tape could have overcome some concerns on athleticism. As is, in addition to teams questioning his speed, they see that he is only a 1-year starter, and question whether he was just feasting on lesser college talent. Another season could have allayed some of those concerns. Hindsight is always 20/20, but the difference between a mid to high first and an early second round pick can be 15 million bucks. Worth an extra year of college.

What pisses me off is that tackle from USC was picked when AJ owned him like a cheap suit in the bowl game.....

Another athlete falls victim to the coronavirus shutting down college athletics this spring. Wonder if he'd of raised his stock back up if pro day wasn't cancelled. I wonder if he'd of returned for his senior year if there were a stipulation in place that would allow athletes that under performed at the combine, and were unable to have a pro day, to withdraw their name from the draft and return to school. At this point all we can do is look back on a great Hawkeye career and hope he lands in an organization that he wants to be part of.

I honestly doubt that. He has a great body of work over two seasons, what does a third season do for him? He would have gotten just as much attention as last year. The only thing that I could see improving his stock is if his measurables did improve.

Three players listed as defensive linemen were taken in the first round last night. Chase Young at 2 and DTs Derrick Brown at 7 and Javon Kinlaw at 14. Yes, other players drafted could line up on the edge in the NFL's multiple defenses, but it's not like a bunch of DL were picked ahead of AJE.

AJ will be just fine. Unfortunately the combine has way too much stock in it at this point. Phillip Lindsey wasnt even invited and is an all pro. Someone will see the football player he is and AJ will a have a chance to work hard and excel at the next level. Would like to see him in Green Bay where they keep wasting draft picks, they could have drafted help at WR makes no sense, you could take local boy Nate in the 7th to hold the clipboard he has a high wonderlic for this sort of thing.

Yeah I won't start getting pissed unless that PSU DE goes ahead of him or some other DEs. If AJE goes in the first 10 picks of the 2nd round and I think he will as long as it's to a good fit I'll be ok with it.

James Daniels was a second-rounder and started as a rookie.

I selfishly hope AJE lasts until 48 for the Jets but I'd be happy to see him go before that.

I had the Jets in mind as one of the cruddy franchises in my comment earlier :p. He'd be a great value pick for them though!

Yeah I seem to remember saying that before they declared and everyone bit my head off. So, no not in hindsight.
He will probably go second round. Probably mid to latter.

The combine performance dropped AJEs draft stock...morons. The draft idiots like Mel Kiper and the other parasites that somehow found a niche to exploit...get it wrong just as much as they get it right. What a job...80% of these guys going in the first two rounds are going to make teams and contribute. The real issue is that GM's buy into all the combine hype...when they have 30 games of tape against great competition to evaluate. Understanding a players measurables and athleticism is important...but not everything. Desmond King is the ultimate poster child of draft hype downdrafts...and not trusting what you saw on film. The guy is an all-pro...punt returner and great football player. That was clear in the tape, but everyone bought into a tough few practices at the senior bowl...hell I heard that was blown out of proportion also.

Welp, that got shattered. Gross-Matos, 2nd round, 6th pick (38 overall)...

Well, the professionals see some things they don't like. Part-time effort? Poor combine?

Great news is, he can get drafted below where he had hoped and prove everyone wrong.

Mel Kiper is an idiot. He thought Jordan Love was a good pick yesterday when virtually every other "expert" thought it was a terrible pick. And he currently has Epenesa as the 8th best available player even though we're at pick 46. Dude is a hack.

I like the Packers first round pick. Love has high upside. Also delivered a message to The Princess. You need to be a leader Aaron. It isn't all about you.
