KF on AJE's Draft Stock

I hope he goes first round but I am not certain.

I did place a bet that he would go first round, if he doesn't I owe x4 to the other person.

Scouts seem to question his motor, drive, if the engine can remain on for longer stretches.

Perhaps he is just too nice of a guy to be a great FB player. That is not uncommon.

Hopefully he surprises and someone picks him higher than predicted. That would be great for him and Iowa!

But not Detroit or Cleveland please.

Like most picks, it will come down to fit. I think AJ would be a better fit as a 3-4 DE. He is bigger, stronger, and slower than a prototypical 4-3 DE. Or, he should at least move to the left side in a 4-3 system. Aaron Kampman never had top end quicks, but had a 10+ year career as a left 4-3 DE.

I hope The Chiefs grab AJ with the last pick of the round. That would be amazing.

That's just it. How's he measure up against other good teams and players... Dude can play football with his best yet ahead of him. With how Iowa used him his first couple yrs he didn't get a boat load of snaps. Compared to what Adrian Clayborn did I bet he played half the snaps or so that he did in his career at Iowa. AJ should have a ton of tread on his tires to have a long NFL career.

Has KF done any more videos similar to this pounding the table for Stanley or anyone else too? Stanley better get taken higher then 6th round. If CJB went 3rd round with no aspirations of him being more then a backup then how can Stanley be looked at all that much different? He's got starting potential to me in a couple yrs. Maybe I'm beyond biased I dunno.

I produced this video from KF's Zoom press conference. He was asked specifically about AJE. He was not asked about Stanley. NFL Draft was just one of many topics discussed.

Two or three weeks ago I was 90% confident he'd go in the 1st round. I'd say that's closer to 60% now.

There's a lot of gamesmanship going on now with the different NFL teams. They've all got their draft boards ready, they know who they want and there aren't many straight shooters out there at the moment.

Any of us that watched the Hawks last fall knows that some NFL team is going to get one heckuva edge rusher. I hope it's in the first round but, if not, so be it. I'm guessing most of the teams did what KF suggested and watched the film.

Typically 3-4 DEs are space eaters that weigh over 300 pounds. I don’t think AJE is that guy.

AJE is a true 4-3 end in that he can play the run and also rush the passer. The problem is about 50% of the league is employing the 3-4 now which limits his available teams. Obviously the combine performance put some question marks on his athleticism.

I’d argue Shanahan had aspirations of more than a backup for CJ. He just got called into action soon than planned. I don’t think he would’ve taken him as early as he did otherwise.

Give it a few years, AJE could be coming into his prime as the league shifts back toward 4-3. Hard to predict.

In my feeble mind, I thought the same thing as Ferentz. AJE dominated Jackson in the Holiday Bowl. The USC QB's shoulder and elbow extend their hardiest snarls and grrrrs to Jackson.

I'd have liked to have thought so. But I think he was just a plan B. The 9ers were hell bent on getting another QB at that time remember? Be it Kirk Cousins or Jimmy G were the two main ones. They didn't wait for Cousins to hit the market and got Jimmy since the deal was there to be made in season. I honestly don't think they drafted CJ to be the future of the franchise as cool as that'd have been.
There's value to good backup QBs too and 3rd rounders aren't paid that much on their 1st contracts. Heck now he's the 3rd stringer behind Mullens too. So we'll see what the 9ers do going into this next yr but I'd guess anything is on the table. Trading either he or Mullens or outright cutting CJ. Most teams didn't carry 3 guys like they did last yr and I'll be surprised if they do that again this yr.

I know there's a lot of money at stake based on the position he's drafted, but as a fan I'd rather see him drafted by a franchise worth being excited about. I've seen too many players like Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson (not just picking on the Lions) leave the game early because they don't seem happy where they're at and seem to have lost their love for the sport. I'd rather see him in "the right place" then see him drafted in a position where he's likely to make bank playing for a hopeless franchise.

That's why I worry about TJ. There are a few franchises where careers die far quicker than normal. Detroit, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Oakland used to be one of them as well. We'll see if that trend continues in Vegas.

Speaking of those franchises, this is the time of year that those franchises are actually relevant for a few days.

Unfortunately very true. The selfish side of me would like to see him in KC with Chicago the runner up.

I thought AJE was a freakish athlete,it turns out he is just a very good one. Nothing wrong with that he will be productive at the NFL level. As Kirk and many others have pointed out go look at the film.

Somewhere Clinton fan is crying to his Kirk statuette that Eppy didn't go in the first round.

He may not go in the second round either. Classic tweeners who tank at the combine tend to fall a long ways in the draft.

He should still be a tremendous value pick for someone.

I'm just hoping one of the better franchises sees the value and grabs him late second/early third. I'd like him to be somewhere he can win and shine, not end up under poor managment.

Pretty crazy. Gotta wonder if he would have declined to do the 40 at the combine if he would have went in the 1st round. Cannot believe he ran that slow.

Hindsight it 20/20 obviously but I have to imagine with how much AJE loves Iowa he would have came back if he knew he’d fall out of the first round. At the time he was a consensus Top 15 pick though.

Yeah once the season ended it felt like going to ATL at 16 would be the floor for him. Now it's almost like he should wish he'd have came back for another yr. I can't believe every single team from 15 or so on down put that much stock into his 40 time. I mean geesh the dude can play. Some times that can matter. But not in his case. Not even remotely. Someone is getting a steal today it's just that simple.
