Kevin Durant is good at basketball

Greg Oden was an absolute man amongst boys against a Florida team starting three lottery picks in the front court in the NCAA title game. The revisionist history is that Durant was an easy choice, but it really wasn't the case.

Durant was a 5 tool basketball player. Oden was just big. Everyone thought he'd be the next Shaq. Problem is, there's just one Shaq.
At Durant's height / skillset, it really was a no brainer.

There's only one Shaq and he in fact doesn't have a brain. Shaq good, Shaq play Kazaam!

Listening to that guy talk is extremely difficult.

so, lesson is: Oden = Tebow Great college player, terrible pro?

Tebow played 4 years and won the heisman not to mention a NC or two. Broke multiple records nationally and for the school.

Oden played 1 year and lost the NC game.

Also you could tell with Tebow at Florida he was great college football player but he would never make it as an NFL QB. Didn't have the tools.

Oden was a no-brainer No.1 pick and here is why: Barring injuries he would have been the best Center in the NBA by year two. He could run the floor, block shots and shoot the little hook with both hands.

Had their been any hint of a knee issue, I really don't think he would have been the No. 1 pick.

Durant is just a basketball player, he does everything well and is now playing the correct position in the NBA, he was a bit out of place at Texas. The guy can score in any way he wants, fun player to watch.

The NBA is becoming fun to watch again with players not going from HS to the NBA. I saw they not Top 10 plays on ESPN and was reminded again how bad it was. Martell Webb dunking a ball down three with less than 10 seconds to play. Just brought flashbacks of when the NBA play was degrading.

You can't be serious? He never ran the floor he jogged sometimes but he couldn't run his knees were so bad he couldn't.

After a couple of trips back and forth he always had to sit for 4-5 minutes at a time.

His knees were bad at OSU?

Remember with the broken bone he had he didn't play and wasn't in game shape until the NCAA tournament.

The dude was 18 years old and had to wear knee braces every game, probably even when he wasn't playing.

The body grows to a certain point and it doesn't handle it well. Gregs body couldn't handle the stress he put it under playing basketball.

Uh oh Dave...I call bs

There was zero indication that he had bad knees in college, or during his pre-draft exams. The injury to his wrist was thought to be a potential problem, but I don't recall anything otherwise.

No revisionist history on my end. I was adamant that Durant was the better player... then and now...

At the time, I thought it was pretty even, but Portland really wanted a big guy so it became something of an easy choice for them.

When it came right down to it for me, all injuries aside, I thought they both would be fairly even in the NBA. Durant could flat out score and there are not great Centers in the NBA. My thought was each would shine at their position and their careers would speak for themselves. Oden, injuries and zip for a career, Durant injury free and one of the 5 best players in the game today...Oden's career is essentially over, so Spank, as always...you are correct sir!
