Kentucky Hoops.

What do people think about Kentucky bball? I used to think it was somewhat of a program to be respected. However, with Calipari, I put it in the Auburn football category. The man might be the devil with his ability to "recruit". But, in the end, all most fans want is to win and KY sold their souls for this guy. I don't typically agree with Bobby Knight, but he was correct in asking how Calipari is still even coaching given he has been at 2 schools where their wins and final fours were vacated. Now, he is at one of the best jobs in the Country? It is the saddest example I can think of regarding how out of whack priorities have gotten in terms of college athletics.

John Calipari has never been in any trouble with the NCAA. He's a great recruiter and a better in game coach than most people give him credit for. There's a lot of jealous people, Knight and other coaches included, out there.

Have you seen their facilities along with their living accommodations? Kentucky treats their basketball program like royalty and they get the best of everything for it. Say what you want about Calipari but he should not have to break any rules to recruit the top talent and he does win games.

Everywhere he has been there has been trouble from him.

Find somebody better at taking, nay, creating, rosters stacked full of high-chinned, elite high school, and sure-fire NBA basketball players every year and get them to set their egos aside, embrace defense, operate within a team system, and win titles. Then you can take away Calipari's job.

The fact that he is never in the same room as the bag man should not be rewarded. The man has had 2 Final Fours vacated and left 2 teams on probation. That is enough for me. I am not jealous b/c I fully embrace the fact that Iowa is hardly Kentucky. That said, I can honestly say that I would never want Calipari to coach in Iowa City no matter how good he might make the team. Wherever he goes, his reputation follows and is incorporated into that institution. People chuckle whenever Coach Cal signs his next big class or wins something big. That chuckle is suspicion, which is an awful thing to live under. In his case, fully earned, deserved and awarded.

There has never been trouble for him, what are you talking about?

The NCCA Clearinghouse ****ed over Memphis becuase they screwed up, that had nothing to with Calipari. Camby got paid by agent, had nothing to do with Calipari.

Crazy talk, if I ever thought Calipari would ever come to Iowa I would kick Fran to the curb right now and not think twice about it. I dream about the day NBA talent is putting on Hawkeye uniforms and playing in the Final Four.

I have little doubt JC knew about Rose.

It's still the NCCA Clearinghouse's fault that Memphis had to vacate that season. They approved him to play, and then later reversed their decision and penalized Memphis for using an ineligible player, who at the time was eligible. Any other coach in the country would have been in the same situation.

Agreed. Calipari has mastered the art of plausible deniability and people simply brush it aside b/c winning is all that matters to most. Either that or he has no control over his programs. Either way, its no good. Everyone is entitled to their opinion on this issue however. Some people have their heads in the sand and others like me, believe in black helicopters.

BTW: Kentucky got the Harrison twins commitment yesterday on live TV on ESPNU. They are rated the top pg and sg in the 2013 class, and #2 and #4 overall. Sounded like nice young men in their presser. Both said that they chose Ky over Maryland and SMU because '' we want to win right away''. This locks up Cal's 5th #1 recruiting class in his 6 classes at KY. Last year KY ended up #2 behind UCLA who got Shabazz Muhammed, #1 player in the class. KY is still in the hunt for 5 of the last remaining uncommitted top 10 players for 2013,including Jabari Parker who is #1.

Anyone that has seen the Ritz-Carlton style new BB dorm at KY which was bought by the Coal Industry knows that KY has a lot to sell, but the winning is the biggest lure. Cal probably has cheated, but now he might be at a point where he only has to do it for a few recruits....I doubt that the Harrison family is being paid. They all know that like Anthony Davis...they will collect in a year from the NBA.

I know. It is a sad commentary on the state of NCAA athletics. Things got real bad a long time ago, but the Calipari situation is Exhibit "A". Cam Newton/Gene Chizik would be Exhibit "B".

Yes players want to play for a great coach who wins and puts players into the NBA at a high rate. Won't somebody think of the children!

My problem with it is that it just encourages cheating to keep up. Coach Cal, with his stellar rep, ended up in the catbird seat. Not saying its not a wise decision for these 1 and done guys to go there. Its basically a NBA farm team. Actually, it is an NBA farm team. I think all 5 starters from last year ended up in the league. Hey, who say's cheating doesn't pay?

I remembered Memphis State winning ncaa with coach Dana Kirk, then he got in trouble for some reason that he used ineligible players But again I wouldn.t trust my memory, brah:p

+ million I would help Fran him pack.

+1. If Calipari would come to Iowa and win the way he has at UMass, Memphis and UK and still get away with his shenanigans, then I would be all for it. It's just basketball - I don't take things that seriously.

I don't hear people villifying those Fab-5 teams at Michigan for being ill-gotten gains.. Do you? All I really hear about is how great those teams were, despite those wins being vacated way after the fact. So in the end, who really cares that Steve Fisher cheated? Seemingly, nobody.

Here is how I justify that: The Fab 5 was cool.

I have no memory of Fisher after that. With Coach Cal, he cheats his *** of, signs a blood oath with KY and just gets to strut around like he is John Wooden meets Jay-Z.

Certainly not John Wooden, who without a doubt has cheated more than Cal.
