KenPom ratings released

They show Iowa going 7-11 in the league but only have them winning 5 games?
12-1 in non-conference and 5-13 in the league pencils out to 17-14.
I think they are opimistic on the ISU and Creighton games, but I think Iowa wins 2 more league games...upsetting someone.

I say 18-13 or 17-14....I also question the Big Ten standings...MSU at 5th? No way...they are going to be 2nd or 3rd.

Saw that to. No way ISU finishes as bad as predicted. Its early but its a nice sign that the program is headed in the right direction. Last year I think we started around 170+/-.

I actually agree with the MSU placing at 5th, however they could finish lower than that...the team I question is Purdue being that high...they lost Johnson and Moore and who knows what Hummel will be able to provide?

MSU lost some players, but Green being back is still a problem, he is not a leader, maybe I am wrong on him, but I don't feel he is the player that most think he is. They have no proven PG and everything hinges on Adrien Payne and Derrick Nix being viable post players. I like Iowa's chances at 20 wins better than Nix ever being a viable player.

Friday is Michigan's first exhibition game, I am hoping to go and give a report on them, especially Burke. Did anyone see that they got Mitch McGary to commit to them today on ESPNU, he is the No. 2 recruit in the country.

Looks like KenPom doesn't feel that final four hero Chris Allen will be as good as most ISU fans think.

Ouch! A seven game losing streak to start the Big Ten?!? That would definitely pour some cold water on this season. Really doubt that will happen. Also, he has us losing to UNI and beating ISU. If anything, I think the opposite might happen. Food for thought though.

His predictions change continuously throughout the season so they'll get better once teams start playing games.

KenPoms stuff only starts to work when he has data. He had no data on the key portions of the new ISU team. Iowa returns a lot of players, and I think they benefit from this.

But that is why we play the games. Good luck in Ames. It also says ISU has about a 33% chance of beating Drake, so I am going to ignore this stuff for the time being.

certainly can't be worse than the last two years. that said, will wait till the season gets going before i pay any real attention to rankings stuff.

Well all of the reports say that Nix finally got in shape, and even if he under performs they are still more talented than most of the other Big Ten teams. Wood and Appling will be tough and Payne has all the talent in the world if he can slow down a little bit.

I get that you think Nix is the most overrated player in the Big Ten, but the rest of the conference just isn't talented enough for MSU to fall below 5th.

They lost two of their best three players off of a 9-9 B10 team, they could certainly finish below fifth in the conference.

A lot of Big Ten teams lost their best players too. That is the point. I am not saying they are world beaters but the rest of the conference has also dropped off a significant amount. Getting Wood from Valpo was absolutely huge for Izzo. Do you see 5 other teams outmatching Appling, Wood, Green, Dawson, Payne, and Nix? I don't and I think they, along with Illinois, gained just by ridding of the cancers in the locker room.

I saw the MSU game the other nite vs Ferris St. Nix looks like a different person..lost at least 30lbs,he is now a hard body. Payne has picked up 15 lbs of muscle at least. Green looks sculpted. Wood is good. Appling is very good. Dawsen looks like an exceptional athlete. Izzo said afterward that they are the most unselfish team he has had at MSU. He was beaming. Even Russell Byrd was knocking down threes. Thornton is the same, but they have another frosh,a 6'6' guard ,who looked good.
Payne,Nix,Dawsen and Green will be the second best frontline after OSU...and maybe tied with Minny. Wood,Trice and Appling will be a dangerous backcourt.

I love KenPom, but it really doesnt become valid until 10+ games into the season.

No way Iowa loses at Lincoln.

He shows that Iowa is favored in 12 out of the 13 non-conf games, but the predicted record takes into account that some of the games you're supposed to win, you'll lose, and some of the games you're supposed to lose, you'll win. For example, if a team was a 51% favorite in each individual game, the most likely record wouldn't be an undefeated season. It would be closer to a .500 season.
