KENO!!!

Time for Lick to go. Let's get down on your knees, beg for forgiveness from the Davis family and bring Keno in to bring us to the promise land. Good recruiter, players love to play for him because he breathes confidance into his players, and he knows the area and coaches. I see Carver filling up again with this hire. Let's get Keno!

I think Iowa would be smart to look elsewhere...Keno seems like a natural fit on the East Coast, and he moved to Providence to get big conference experience and learn how to recruit the East Coast. I don't think he's doing all of that to come to a second tier Big 10 program in a state with a minimal amount of recruits of which the once per five year recruit will inevitably go to Kansas...

I'll said it time and again, Providence is a way better job than Iowa.

Let's not get carried away here.

Hear is Providence's Big East records since 2001

2001 - 6-9
2002 - 8-8
2003 - 11-4
2004 - 4-12
2005 - 5-11
2006 - 8-8
2007 - 6-12
2008 - 10-8
overall - 58-72

Iowa's Big Ten record since 2001
2001 - 5-10
2002 - 7-9
2003 - 9-7
2004 - 7-9
2005 - 11-5
2006 - 9-7
2007 - 6-12
2008 - 5-13
overall - 60-72

Looks to me like they have been on pretty even ground this decade. But, take a look at the all-time basketball rankings compiled by ESPN. Iowa ranks 10th and Providence 78th - really no comparison.

If you take a look at the Sagarin conference rankings by years:

2001 - big ten 4th, big east 6th
2002 - big ten 5th, big east 4th
2003 - big ten 5th, big east 4th
2004 - big ten 5th, big east 2nd
2005 - big ten 3rd, big east 2nd
2006 - big ten 4th, big east 5th
2007 - big ten 6th, big east 3rd
2008 - big ten 1st, big east 6th

So the big ten average conference rank this decade is 3.875 and the big east is 4. Doesn't appear the big east has this big advantage that some think it does.

The Big East became a 16 team conference in 2005 so the stats before that don't really matter. We are talking about the conference now. This is the only year since 2005 that the Big 10 has been better.

FYI there is no way the Big 10 is better than the Big 12 in basketball this year. Not a chance

Even if you look at the stats from 2005 to present it doesn't change the conclusion. There isn't a large difference between the big 10 and big east and historically Iowa has been a much, much better program than Providence.

Who said anything about the Big 12 this year?

Its pretty simple, he preaches a fun style of BB to watch and play. He had success at Drake, and Iowa has had none lately. He is a mostly known quantity and he is liked ( like his dad is liked ). People can warm up to him, he doesnt seem like an odd duck who keeps to himself and isnt a people person like our present coach (think a people person would have the personnel issues like Lick ?).

Not a big difference but I don't think anyone can make the argument that the Big 10 has been better than the Big East since 2005. That was my point

And I was just commenting on those rankings you showed that had the Big 10 #1. Big 10 is good this year. Best it has been in a while but the Big 12 is pretty stacked unfortunately

Look again - the big ten was ranked #1 last year. This is 2009 not 2008 - I said nothing about this year. Why would I - conference play hasn't even started.
If you look at the sum of the previous 4 seasons that the Big East has been 16 teams the Big East's average Sagarin ranking is 4.00, while the Big Ten's is 3.50 - hmmm.
