KC chiefs player commits suicide 0fficial thread

WTF?

Since I need at least five characters, I ask What the ****? Easier than adding a question mark at the end.

Wow, very sad. :(

I always get a tremendous rush of perspective when this type of stuff happens with someone of a high public profile, like a professional athlete. These guys have everything that us people from the outside looking in assume leads to happiness & smooth sailing in life - built like Greek gods, they make more money in a year than most of us could hope to make in 10 years (and all the material possessions that come along with that money), incredible athletic prowess, worshipped by legions of fans. On top of all that, many athletes also have a lot more brains in their heads than they get credit for (although I can't speak either way on Belcher in that regard).

At any rate, I think it's a valuable lesson that no amount of that ^ "stuff" ^ is insulation from mental illness, difficulties in your private life, tragedy, etc. Today would be a good time to embrace those things in your life that are good & that make you happy, even if they don't have the superficial sheen of perfection that we too often assume correlate to happiness.

In honor of Belcher, the Chiefs will use the Pistol formation for their first offensive play of the game.

Look behind you. You see that thing waaaay back there on the ground? Uh, yeah... That's the line that you crossed. Opps.

Wow, shot himself in front of GM and coach:

Belcher then drove to the team facility, where he later shot and killed himself in the parking lot of the team complex, in front of GM Scott Pioli and coach Romeo Crennel, as well as other team personnel. A KCPD spokesman said Pioli and Crennel tried to talk to Belcher, who thanked the men before taking his life.
