Katenda Drops Iowa

It has to be frustrating for coaches who spend so much time recruiting a kid -- only to have that kid select another option. I do not envy college coaches for having to recruit.

No one has demanded a link. But attribution = credibility. It's human nature. It's not that no one believes or wants to read what you have to say you when you don't post a link, it's just people want to know where the info comes from before they decide for themselves how credible the info is. I would bet my bottom dollar that you are the same way.

My information comes from multiple sources. Some stories that are already out there publically. Some, from people who, when they give me information, I trust it. I don't post often, because I have just enough time as it is keeping up on Rivals, Scout, Voice and Hawkeyenation.

So if you are saying human nature is to automatically doubt credibility, I can understand that, but I think my over 20 years on the boards, listservs gives me the benefit of the doubt.

I agree that these guys are leftovers for the most part.
This. There is no one out there associated with Iowa that is worth getting worked up about one way or another. For the most part, if these guys were that good they wouldn't still be without a scholarship. And yes, before anyone asks me, I am familiar with Basabe and Cartright (party of four).
As a fan I would be more interested in what the situation looks like for the upcoming fall signing period.

Katenda is worth getting worked up over.

This board is getting more depressing to read than the weather report.
Spring will come, and UI will get a commit. (i think)

It's only depressing if you are impatient. The three most likely candidates to commit are Hubbard- who is announcing on the 23rd- this Saturday, so don't be anxious about news on him, Matt Glover, who visits Iowa on Thursday, so again, no need to fret over a lack of news, and Olaseni, who seems to be waiting hoping for an Oklahoma offer.

Basically this is a waiting game until this weekend, when things should pick up.

But why doesn't anyone ever demand a link for that link?

If we have no commits by the middle of next week...I'm going to sweat a little bit. It will mean that Hubbard chose Nebbie and Glover didn't commit to Iowa after his visit even AFTER Hubbard took Nebbie;s last ride. It would also mean no Olaseni commit. Next Tuesday if we've got nothin' you can begin to get restless.

But why doesn't anyone ever demand a link for that link?

That's a great question. From this point on I am only going to accept information from links with multiple links. I'm setting the bar at 5. Any more than that and I would likely just be getting a quote from myself by means of 6th degree of seperation.

Beilein was able to keep Manny Harris as a result of retaining one of UM's key assistants. He also had 7 other key players signed by his second fall, which equates to this November for Fran. That sets the foundation for adding a couple of guys like Hardaway and Morris.

The thing with Michigan is that you can't forget are players that they were able to bring in via transfer and have guys that were walk-ons step up.
Zach Gibson, CJ Lee were guys that transferred in from Rutgers and Manhattan, respectively. Gibson was like Brommer, but taller and when he stayed out of foul trouble gave them good minutes and Lee was a great backup PG for them. Don't forget David Merritt, who took the PG spot from Kelvin Grady (now a WR for football team) and was able to be a true leader on the floor.

That team was able to make the NCAA tournament its second year together, then Merritt is gone and there is no leader on the floor and Harris and Sims looked like average players at times with no direction and they finish in the bottom 3 or 4.

Morris became a leader this year and that is why Michigan is where they were, if he stays in the NBA draft, they will have a significant dropoff with unproven players at PG, again.

Michigan had two good players this year with Morris and Hardaway, but a ton of complimentary guys that knew their roles, or accepted their roles. With the roster turnover at Iowa lately, their haven't been players to fill any of those complimentary roles.

Lastly, there are some that doubt how much player development should factor into a programs ability to flourish. Look at Michigan, Morris was just okay as a freshman, took a year to work out with some good players in the summer and develop his game, he had confidence and then became the leader of the team. Hardaway just got better as the season went along, learned how to put the ball on the floor at times, he developed. What happened when each of these players hit their high point confidence-wise and developed from day one of the season until the last day of the season where they almost upset Duke in the NCAA tournament? Every other player relaxed and played their game and the team developed into a very quality team.

Iowa has the two guys that can feed off one another in Cartwright/Basabe, but Iowa does not have the complimentary players right now. It is part of being a bad program for a few years. The good news is that Basabe will be around, but the bad is Cartwright is only around one more year.
Iowa has added two more pieces to the puzzle, if Iowa is able to add one more piece, that is enough, for now. It is imperitive that Iowa gets another PG, or a combo guard that can give Cartwright the needed breaks he needs. The 2012 class has a ton of quality PG's that Iowa is already watching, I like the chances of landing one of those rather than pressing to get one this year.
It doesn't matter what positions Oglesby/White play, if they are better than the people that are exiting the program, it makes Iowa a better team and potentially, a match-up problem for opponents.

Iowa is in much better shape heading into this Spring than last Spring that is for sure, but it still is not where Fran or the fans want to be, I think that goes without saying.

Looking forward, Iowa does have one player for the 2012 class, so that is a selling point as well, think about it. People are so worried about the 2011 class and what we don't have and it is understandable, but having one 2012 player today can point to good things for that class being a potentially great class...it could, getting an early start on it as Iowa has now is nothing but a positive. It also proves that the staff can get people early given enough time. Now people are wondering why hasn't Iowa gotten Woodbury or Gessel and others yet? For 2012, it is still somewhat early, this Fall will tell us a lot about what to expect for the future of Iowa basketball.

Here is something to think about, if Iowa signs players that have more than three years eligibility then it takes away from the 2013 class. If Iowa were to sign three freshman, there is only one scholarship available for that year (Eric May).

The Michigan situation shows how important it is to get NBA type players to help spur a turn around. Morris was a 4* and Hardaway seems to be better than previously advertised. Also, it should be noted that Beilein replaced his whole staff after a few lackluster years of recruiting.

Beilein also proved that he could win at a high level (Big East) with lower level recruits which should instill more confidence with the Michigan fan base.

So katenda is for sure done with Iowa? Hinsider has a new thing on him and Olesini or whatever clearing up rumors. Iowa was hashtagged
