Katenda Drops Iowa

Based on a link from TOS, it seems he is now down to ND or Wake and some mysterious team. I was all for clearing out the last of the Lick era but this is getting a little depressing.

This next class begins the time where this staff's relationship building abilities will begin to show up, or not

Spring recruiting season is a time where 'assets' are over valued due to being the last girl left at the dance. There are few program saviors to be had here.

That being said, Iowa needs to get one or two here for some depth.

If we are sitting around one year from now with a lot of rides available and missing targets I will begin to get worried.

So much for building relationships as important. Fran has been recruiting this kid for 3 years. We have nothing to sell to these kids that they care about. Without wins or an NCAA tourney bid to sell, we are going to have to hope for extreme player development. Obviously a new facility, style of play, relationships, Big Ten, TV don't matter.

If true let's hope Iowa is mysterious. Hey building relationships is what it is supposed to be about right? Hasn't Fran been recruiting this kid longer than the other schools? He had contact with this kid back when he was still coaching at Sienna, or at least I read that some where. How long has the Irish been recruiting him?

I feel bad for Fran on this one big time. Not surprised we didn't get Katenda but Fran has been recruiting him for nearly 3 years. Wake Forrest recruiting him for 3 months. Notre Dame for 1 month.

It does seem strange that he would drop from his list the coach that had been recruiting him for three years. Has this been verified for sure?

I agree, if it's like this next year We's in trouble!

Sorry, but the Hawks need a big, (4 or 5 post player) more than they need Katenda, they have plenty of tweeners (3-4 players), but it is imperative they replace Cole and get some help for cartwright, The Hawkeyes will be more attractive next yr, other than that if they don't want to be a Hawkeye why waste time worrying, there are still some good players available, Fran just needs to catch a break.

FALSE.

The other schools have been on him for about a year also. Missing on one guy isn't a poor prognostic indicator of their recruiting abilities.

Gotta think if the staff could find one of these players with 1 year of eligibility for next year it would be perfect. We really need a big and a point for next year. Wonder if they were or tried to get in on Olu Ashaolu? Athletic big from Louisiana Tech. Has 1 year of eligibility for next year.

ND has been on him as long as Fran has been while at Iowa. Katenda originally scheduled his first official visit to ND last summer, but did not take it, for whatever reason. Shortly after he missed the visit, he transferred to his current high school. The original story of him setting his visit to ND was 6/27/10, long before he thought of taking any others.

If Katenda doesn't come to Iowa, it will be disappointing, but not surprising.

This isn't first guy they missed out on it has been several now that don't want to seem to have anything to do with Iowa....they look at us and keep us there but when it comes down to it they really ar ejust waiting for a better offer

Relationships are not EVERYTHING, but they are important. I don't get why people take things like that to the extreme. When you're in as deep a hole as we are, relationships are important. Are they a guarantee? Of course not. But programs that are in the shape that ours is, don't get good recruits without having solid relationships.

Does Katenda have a Notre Dame offer? One site says he does, one site says he doesn't. Can anyone provide a link with a direct quote from Katenda, his coach, or Notre Dame saying he was offered a scholly? I'm just curious to know from those that seem to follow recruiting closer than I do.
