Kansas fired Weis; Michigan, you now have an out, if you want it.

What is a school likes Kansass expectations? They can't keep up with the top level schools in that league. The worst thing that happened to them was when they had a couple really good years there under that Qb that could sling it in that pass happy O Mangino had them in. Having a couple stud skill guys with a good offensive mind can have success. But if the rest of the team isn't so hot its just about impossible to sustain for long. The school tried to sustain it by over paying for Weiss you can't really blame them for trying. What good coach is going to go there if you don't over pay em? (not that Weiss is a good coach) It's either that or get lucky with a new young guy and that's a crap shoot. That said Kansas decided it was time to move on and if it wasn't for the crazy money they were paying Weiss they'd have done it earlier.

Michigan is in a mess... That fan base is about to run out that AD and Hoke both. I doubt they make a move in season now. Unless fans stop coming... I think the media and fans can talk all day long about how mad they are but so long as the money is still coming in Michigan won't make a change till after the year. I doubt getting rid of him now would turn the year around for them. So they may as well just ride it out. Now that said if the big house isn't full their next home game....

Michigan needs a boring stabilizer to go in and shore up the atrocity in the trenches that has developed. If Miami runs Philbin, he would be the perfect coach to get their lines built up, which would take them back to the Lloyd Carr days. It would be boring, but they could get competitive again. I suspect they'll end up swinging for another home run and have a 90% chance of striking out when they could try for a sac bunt and have a 90% chance of success (albeit with slightly upside).

Michigan is getting into the place that Nebraska was around 2007. Their history and expectations are not in line with reality. They are not a national championship contender any longer and never will be again on a yearly basis.

Both programs have boosters and fans who refuse to believe this and think a new coach will get them back to where they used to be. Not gonna happen. With that said, year in and year out Michigan's floor should be 7-8 wins with 10+ and a shot at the BIG mixed in from time to time. No shame in that but its not 1997 anymore, Jim Harbaugh isn't going to change that.

Interesting thought there. Might KOK tag along in that case? I think they'll spend all kinds of money to hire a firm to go out coach shopping for them. They'll shoot for Harbaugh first I'm sure. Whispers are getting louder that he's wearing thin in 49er land. They won and all yesterday but they sure didn't play like a team fired up for their coach. Lots of penalties wasted time outs just didn't look like a great coached outfit, just their talent took over that game. And the Eagles didn't bring their A game clear across the country that's for sure.

Narduzzi will be in line for a bigger coaching gig than Kansas.
Michigan perhaps?

I'm not sure if he'll be in line for a bigger job. Google tells me that the biggest names to interview him are UConn and Louisville. I think he'd be a good hire at a P5 school, but don't know if it will happen.

I really doubt Michigan would hire the MSU DC. Butyouneverknow.

Does Jim Harbaugh really strike you as the kind of person who'd have the patience to fly around and try to convince 16 year olds to come to Michigan?

He did it at Stanford pretty darn well.. And when he started there he was picking up the pieces of the previous guy. Stevens left him a mess. They kind of are where they are now because of what he started. Now the word was that when he went to the 49ers he preferred the pro game to college but now that he's got a long look at the pro game who knows if that's still the case. I think Harbaugh is just a guy who wears out his welcome wherever he is. He's good at his job but just not personable with kids players or bosses.

As usual, Iowa plays the waiting game while Kansas gets out front and starts looking for a new football coach. They will get the best available coach while Iowa plays games and waits for other schools to make up their mind. Where have I seen this before?

I think its clear that Kansas has standards and expectations and consequences if those are not met. Unlike a certain Athletic Department in Iowa City where its enough to walk and chew gum on the sideline.

We heard you the first time in Post #13....no one responded then because it was just as stupid in that post as it is in this one.

How does Kansas' firing of its coach give Michigan an out that it didn't already have?

If our Administration had any courage they could fire KF and have their pick between Wies, Hoke, Johnson, Zook, Pearlman, Brewster, Tebow, Narduzzi, or somebody else.

Just the whole thing of you can't fire a coach during the season.

We're talking about Michigan here.

They won a national title in basketball after firing their coach immediately prior to the tourney.

Michigan is aware of this option.

This is false..Michigan can get the recrutis we only wish we could. Michigan can recruit with the big boys. They have had idiots for coaches. Ferentz could win big there if he would bring in a decent OC.

To avoid a PR disaster they really can't "settle" on someone this time. I am guessing when they pull the trigger on Hoke they will have everything, but a signed contract in place in terms of their next HC.

More than likely there will be 3-5 NFL openings at the end of the year and he will be the leading candidate in all of them, except obviously San Francisco. He will have leverage no matter what he decides to do.

Things are indeed bad if Michigan should follow Kansas as an example.

I'm sure the East doesnt want Hoke to go away. The longer he is there the longer the mediocrity continues.

Charlie Weis went from Super Bowl winning offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots to
the head coach at Notre Dame, fired and received $19 million to leave.
the head coach at Kansas, fired and received $7 million to leave.

Charlie Weis was a great offensive coordinator, if your quarterback is name Tom Brady.
Doubt will see Weis coaching, again, with $26 million going to his bank account not to coach.

He should eat through that in no time
