JVB < STANZI

Can we please stop saying JVB will be way better than Stanzi? Never understood where that came from. Yeah, he may have the physical tools but he doesn't appear to have it where it's most important - upstairs. He's seriously rattled right now by a not-very-good BXII team.

Stanzi was solid and he owned ISU.

Was not jvb fault wr dropped passes all over the place or we had no defense.....jvb is better than stanzi

They see you trollin'... you hatin'...

Okay, I'll bite. One dropped pass. Many, many inaccurate throws. If you think JVB is better than Stanzi at this point in JVB's career, you're hopeless.

Good point, because Stanzi didn't throw 15 picks his junior season. It wasn't JVB's fault that we lost this game. 44 pts allowed? wtf

I think JVB will be better than Stanzi, yes.

He made two separate throws today that Stanzi never made and still can't make.

At least Vandy isn't prone to throwing pick-six floaters.

Stanzi threw some pick-sixes, but he also sacked up in the 4th and won the game, he had 'it'.

Vandy has some tools that Stanzi didn't but unless they let him go Tate and throw 60% of the time, he is not going to touch Stanzi's success.

From what I've seen Vandy is a great qb when he is in a groove, but Iowa Football doesn't allow for an offense to stay in a groove for very long once we get up by a couple of scores.

Everyone raves about his tOSU performance, but he was basically turned loose for that game...he looked average at best vs the rest of the teams not with a 'Tech' in their names.

I'm not remotely blaming today's loss on Vandy, but this Stanzi vs. Vandy debate is nonsense at this point in time. Stanzi won 3 bowls, Vandy's biggest claim to fame is losing to tOSU in OT.

No actually he didn't, in fact he was terrible last year doing this completely. worthless.

He was 25-9...in your mind worthless? Even dissect last year, he was 8-5...I'd kill for 8-5 this or next year.

PSU as a Soph, IU, MSU as a Junior, he's probably had as much 4th quarter sack as any Iowa qb in modern times.

Vandy did okay ... Let's remember this was only his second start in a tough environment. When it is all said and done, I do think Vandy will be better than Stanzi ... He won't surpass Ricky's record as a starter, but I think he throws a better ball. No interceptions and no fumbles by Vandy was and is a good sign ... Yes, he appeared to get rattled a bit but he also showed the ability to bounce back with some nice throws ...

JVB can make all the throws, but not accurately from what I have seen.

Stanzi has some intangibles that I'm not sure JVB has. Stanzi is a much better scrambler and throws better off play action than JVB. Those are two important factors for an Iowa QB.

For me, I am really unimpressed with JVB so far, but remain optimistic.

We have no depth, so it doesn't matter much.

Vandy did do okay, but I've never understood the thought process that Iowa would be upgraded at qb once Vandy took over for Stanzi.

Stanzi was the 2/3rd best qb I've seen at Iowa over the last 30 plus years. I hope Vandy turns out to be the best I've seen.

This is more about me defending Stanzi vs. criticizing Vandy.

OMG, alright. It is possible that JVB will be better than Stanzi. No one knows for sure. It is not even debatable to compare them right now. If you think JVB is better than Stanzi right now, you've got no hope.

Stanzi threw some pick-sixes, but he also sacked up in the 4th and won the game, he had 'it'.

I'm assuming by "it" you mean guys like Tyler Sash, Adrian Clayborn, Amari Spievey, Christian Ballard, AJ Edds, and Pat Angerer? Not to mention some guy named Greene...

But I agree with your premise. WAY too early to do a fair comparison of the 2 QB's.

JVB's book is not yet written. He could very well end up being better than Stanzi. JVB played fantastic when it counted today - to take the lead in the 4th, and then execute the 2 point conversion play. He also played well in OT - made a great read and throw to Davis that could have gone for 6 and instead we settle for the field goal. JVB made some bad throws to be sure, but remember Stanzi's first game against ISU? At home, with Shonn Greene in backfield Stanzi was so horrendous he needed to get benched for Jake freaking Christensen.

JVB will be fine. All that being said, I'm firmly convinced that in today's college game teams with a dual threat QB - even one who has only average throwing skills - gives teams a better chance to win then a standstill QB with outstanding throwing skills.
