Anybody think we can man up against Sparty? Lucious and Lucas are absolutely lightning, and were getting to the rim at will against some pretty quick Duke guards. If that isn't scary enough, we have Green and Roe to contend with as well. Interested to see what Fran comes up with. Thoughts?

I watched the game...MSU is downright scary. We need to hope that don't shoot quite as well as they did tonight if we're going to give them a shot...we certainly don't have Duke's quickness in the backcourt.

Sidenote: While the crackdown on traveling violations has been noticeable in most Hawkeye games this season, it certainly hasn't permeated the entire college basketball landscape. Did anyone see that breakout that the MSU guy had (that was blocked by Erving)? I slo-mo'd it...I counted either 5 or 6 steps. Silly...
 
I agree. Not sure how our backcourt can keep those guys in check. I can guarantee that Sparty won't turn the ball over like they did tonight.

Duke is good obviously but MSU is just as good. No, I don't think we can man up against Sparty, OSU, Illinois, Purdue, Minny, etc. The Big 10 is legit and it is going to be a long year. The Big 10 is the best conference in the country and proud to say it but it is going to be a very tough year for the Hawks. NW beat GT by 20, yeah it will be a tough year.
 
With the style that we're playing now, we could get run off the floor. I definitely don't want to change our style, because I love what we're doing. We just don't have the horses right now to keep pace with those guys in a run and gun game.
 
I like the improvement and the fact that we actually look like a team, but who do you guys see us beating in the conference? Indiana looks to be improved. Likely won't beat the Mildcats. Almost guaranteed losses to Sparty, OSU, Illinois and Purdue. The Goophies is probably a given as well. Same with Wisconsin. So that leaves Michigan and Penn State.
 
I am braced to be crushed on the road vs the top 6-7 teams.
At CHA I want to be competitive for most of those games.
We need to beat IU,Michigan and NW at CHA.
And ISU and UNI....and the cupcakes.
And develope.
Thats it for me.
 
I think Fran is smart enough not to run with Sparty. I am not saying it will be Lick ball, but I think we take a little bit more time on offense. We will not match up well in the front or back courts.

It will be a long conference season, but I do think Iowa can win 5 games, I don't know if they will, but here are the 5 I would give them a punchers chance in:

Home games:
Northwestern
Indiana
Minnesota
Michigan

Away:
Penn St
 
Say what you want about Lick (I'll agree with most) but his system had the ability to keep the games relatively close when the other team had Iowa outclassed in talent by wide margins (like they do). If Iowa goes out and tries to run and gun against the elite B10 teams blow outs are imminent.
 
Hawks need the homecourt advantage back. It would help if people showed up for the games, and that doesn't mean going to the game and knitting.
 
of course we can't go toe to toe with the top ten teams in the country, but no one expects us to. i'm sure we'll mix it up, but remember we got blown out in the lick era too. and we only scored like 40 points.
 
I say we should just stick with the gameplan vs. MSU. If we slow it down, lose by 15-25 maybe. Run with them maybe lose by 25+. Who cares. I want us to play our game against whoever we are playing we need to take our lumps and learn from it.

I agree.
Go balls out, you never know what can happen.

MSU is tough this year. Really tough.
 
I'm not going to claim Iowa's going to start knocking off heavyweights, but I also think the Hawks are improving and anything can happen on a given night...besides, if Lick's version could beat...anyone at all...then this version's gotta have a chance! RIGHT!?!? Right???
