You are right. I got caught up in the damn headline. Thanks for the details. My WI buddies will not be thrilled, I can promise you.Oh, I see that it was really just a 1-year extension. He was hired to a 7-year contract back in 2022, and it's been extended 1 year each of the 2 seasons he's been coach, so he continues on a 7-year contract.
Paul Chryst never had a losing BTen season during his 7-year tenure as Wisky coach. A 43-18 Big Ten record. In his second year, Fickle had a 3-6 Big Ten record, and Wisconsin's 22 years without a losing record ended, as did their Bowl streak. And he gets a $7.5 million extension. Not a bad gig if you can get it.
Their must be more to the story on Chryst getting fired cause I'm still confused as to why they did that.Oh, I see that it was really just a 1-year extension. Its the classic Nebraska/Solich or Iowa/Davis perception that the coach is really good, but would never get you to "the next level" type decision. So far, it has not paid dividends. I also think that Wisky could suffer the same way Iowa has/will with the demise of the West and expansion of the conference to the West Coach. Both teams seem destined for a permanent place in the middle of the pack.Their must be more to the story on Chryst getting fired cause I'm still confused as to why they did that.
Yeah it feels that way. And besides the whole BIG West disintegrating they also decided to just blow up their entire culture and style of play that they'd been known for forever. To me that would always take awhile to get established. Between what Neb did and now Wisky it's a cautionary tail for Iowa. Culture is no joke. It's impossible to tangibly understand how much it matters. But without it good luck establishing or sustaining anything. Its the classic Nebraska/Solich or Iowa/Davis perception that the coach is really good, but would never get you to "the next level" type decision.
