Just To Be Clear

Lets wager on the NW game. They'll "roll" us? So I guess you'll give me Iowa and 10 points? I'll wager any amount of money on that.

We're gonna roll them. Sorry.

I don't think either team is going to "roll" the other one. Should be a close game. Last time Iowa rolled NW was 2002, unless there's some game in 2003 or 2004 that I'm not remembering. And this isn't 2002, for either team. NW has been a thorn in our side for the past several years, so I'd be happy just to get a W.

Average record with Kirk's salary should be 8-4.
You beat 4 tomato cans out of conference and go 4-4 in the Big Ten.
Is that too much to ask for almost $4 million year?!
Please define the benchmark for posters.

If Kirk is replaced, I'm more than confident that either Bob Stoops or Bret Bielema would be the next HC.

Did someone leave the door open this am? The trolls are all out today.

Love the bielema idea. He is such a hot commodity in Iowa City. Someone is in touch with the program and the community there.

So, Pitt, Arizona, Arizona State, Iowa State and Northern Illinois (ranked both years) are "tomato cans"?

Gimme a break.

Even more hilarious is Stoops leaving Oklahoma.

Easton, I think what Scooby is saying is (Scooby correct me, if needed): why do you think Ferentz is such a hot commodity - especially after another dismal record this season?

Why would I care if he is a hot commodity? he is under contract here.

And if you got that from his post you read something i didn't. Please tell me how this season ends since you seem to know it will be bad.

Hate to break it to you but if Stoops keeps losing to bad Texas teams, he won't have a choice about it. They will ask him to leave.

So simple....just easy math, right? You have the inflow...now show the outflow, please.

Then let me know which programs or other salaries or facilities or T&E or.....your cutting.

You know basically ALL other sports operate in the deep red, right?

You are right. Iowa Sports don't operate at a profit anymore. 2012 was a -$6.7M loss. Just think how deep in the red they'd be without the B1G share.

Here's the shocker - in 2008 Iowa athletics did operate at a profit - of nearly $10M. What changed? Well, we built some new facilities. A lot of them. And we are still building them. But Kirk Ferentz's buyout doesn't have to be payed up front, though that might be better for accounting purposes.

AD made a terrible mistake. Mistakes can be corrected, and bad news doesn't get better with time.

If we keep building new facilities and paying outrageous salaries, those numbers will stay in the red, whether you fire Ferentz or keep him. When Iowa doesn't build a million buildings, it operates in the black, and has for years. The University can afford it. They lack the will or impetuous to do so.

I won't allow myself to become optimistic any longer. We will go into Columbus and push Ohio State into the 4th qtr. The following week we will lose to an inferior opponent at home. Seen it too many times over the last 14 seasons of Careful Kirk football. I'll count no inferior opponent out until the clock reads double zeros.

Sadly this has been quite true the past 6 or 7 years.

BB enjoys the cooking too much in the South. He has gained 30+ pounds already...He would only come this way if we opened a few chicken and waffle huts

Who cares if we play in some crappy 3rd tier bowl game against Rice or Tulane? People acting like that would be some kind of great accomplishment remind me of the people that went gaga during the NIT run in basketball last year. Is this really what we've become as Iowa fans, where NIT bids and bowl games that didn't even exist 3 years ago are considered good seasons?

you're so over the top dude. bad troll job, and terrible comparison.

iowa b-ball goes through it's worst period in the history of the program = NIT excitement

iowa f-ball goes from winning Orange Bowl to losing seasons = people are really disappointed

again, try better. also helps if you use words like moar, liek, and teh.

Im tired of people expecting 8-4. Why is this a great thing? So Iowans can get out of Iowa for a week in the Winter? I want double digit wins EVERY year. I want 10 wins to be the low end of expectations.
And guess what? We are showing the college football world that we will pay top dollar for a coach, we have a press corp that throws softballs, we have an AD that will give "lifetime" contracts with atrocious buyout terms, we have (had?) a great home field advantage, we play in a conference that is winnable every year, we have a conference that regularily puts 2 teams in BCS bowls (soon to be playoffs) and we are uprgrading facilities. AND Iowa was just ranked as the #1 party school in the uSA.
Why wouldnt this be a destination job? Why wouldnt almost any coach in the nation want to come here? Iowa should be able to choose any coach they want with a few exceptions.

In 2 years when (Or when the youngest Ferentz graduates) we are looking for a new coach, it should be a homerun. With no downturn. Jeez, how could there be a downturn after the last 3 seasons.

Born a Hawk fan, bleed black and gold. I want a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!

It's fine to want and to even Really want 10+ wins and to really really want to be a perrenial top 10-15 team. We all want those things

Thinking being a top party school as a catalyst for recruiting and that Iowa has ever been or ever will be a destination job is a little misguided.

Glad your a Hawk, kudos for the passion. Nothing wrong with wanting excellence, lord knows we've been far from it.

Everybody has their own expectations, noone is necessarily wrong....mine are in my sig

Wanting something and expecting it are two different things. I WANT to win the Powerball.

Iowa will never be on Ohio State or Alabama's level. We'll have stretches where individual teams will be just as good as the nation's elite, but we'll never be a team that always reloads with elite talent. We just don't have the same advantages as they do. And don't give me Nebraska as a reason that elite programs can be built in this region. They got great in a different era, when they could build around partial qualifiers. They can't do that anymore, and they show no signs of returning to the Osborne-level success. Don't suggest Oregon, either, as an example of a non-traditional program breaking through. They have the full force and money of Nike behind them. We don't have a Phil Knight or T. Boone Pickens.
