Just To Be Clear

The money/salary issue again...

Very few will argue it wasnt too long, with too large of a buyout...but Unless you have the buyout money... its moot.

Walker...I took the comment as pointing out that Iowa could "easily afford" a different coach and could expect better than what we have received the past 3+ seasons, record-wise. But, I would also say that KF's salary should come with great expectations and they haven't been met. That is one point of the arguement; however, I put the contract blame at the feet of Barta and Mason.

The cynical, sarcastic cabal which persists in dominating this board will continue to call for KF's head during bowl prep this year right? And when we're ranked next year, right?

Just want everyone firmly on the record.

What am I thinking? They'll just switch to their "we're winning" handles.

Based on our play so far I see one more win and that's Purdue. Wisky and NW will roll us. And I won't owe Freak a steak dinner.

It's all in perception. I see very different things in this team than most of you. I see a dynamic quarterback, a stout o-line, strong running backs and depth on the d-line. I can't fathom how that's not going to equal success in the coming seasons. I can't fathom how you're all not pumped.

I do agree with a lot of this. I think I can speak for many that Iowa Football shouldn't be in this position at this stage of KF career. That is pretty damn frustrating if you as me.

Also not sure how pumped people get when 4-3. :)

That's fair. I expect better than 4-5-6 win seasons. The contract, in hindsight, is absurd. My point is that I would have the same expectations independent of salary. Also, because barring another 5 win season or 2(which noone want) and kf bought out(unlikely), it simply is moot to have as part of the comparison, because he's gonna be here at least 2 more years.

And if we are not in a Bowl game, will you and the rest of the clueless clan preach to us about how much better we should be next year? Again?

I won't allow myself to become optimistic any longer. We will go into Columbus and push Ohio State into the 4th qtr. The following week we will lose to an inferior opponent at home. Seen it too many times over the last 14 seasons of Careful Kirk football. I'll count no inferior opponent out until the clock reads double zeros.

Especially when that inferior opponent is Northwestern, an inferior opponent which Kirk has beaten twice in the 8 tries since 2002.

That's fair. And let me clarify - if we finish 4-8 or 5-7 I'm not going to be happy. I feel like this team is on the ascendent. But my faith is not ironclad.

If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this Iowa team, 'Be strong with the pigskin and plant thyself in the endzone on a regular basis' and the wins will surely follow.

HomerSpeak coming:

If the Gods are smiling, including my fave, Kali, the Goddess of Death and Destruction, and we get a few breaks and continue to improve, an 8-4 season, is mathematically possible and almost probable with continued improvement. Main thing is the D must not be on the field most of the game, especially in the second half.....

Hold the home field advantage and win at Purdue, with a loss at Nebraska, which is not entirely certain and we could end up 8-4, which all things considered, would be considered a very good season......

The first half play at Ohio State was very encouraging. Shame that the defense was exhausted the second half. The TD pass in the second half came quickly, and the D was on the field once again before they could catch their breath......

Michigan does stand in the way, even though we have played them very well the past few years.....

Spoken by a true Homer Fan....

You don't read, huh?

Kirk Ferentz's buyout is $18.5M. The entire Athletic department takes in $97.9M. The B1G network per-member share this year will be $25M.

Who cares if we play in some crappy 3rd tier bowl game against Rice or Tulane? People acting like that would be some kind of great accomplishment remind me of the people that went gaga during the NIT run in basketball last year. Is this really what we've become as Iowa fans, where NIT bids and bowl games that didn't even exist 3 years ago are considered good seasons?
There is no denying this team is very capable of getting better. They have proved that and deserve that. They are playing with drive and heart. I can not think of a good reason why the extra practice would not be good. Besides sometimes the gods get all funny and show their sence of humor. A bowl against tx would be fun. Arkansas? Not saying those teams can make it, not saying we can, just saying sometimes things not only work out for the good, but you also get to see the funny side of it.

Besides, the purpose of the thread was not to reinforce how incredible I am - which I am.

I know that we could still theoretically go 4-8, and that might happen, but we could also theoretically go 9-3.

If we go to a bowl this year, and contend for a division title next year - is Kirk still going to be the worst? Are you still going to want him gone?

Because I think both of those options are more likely than the sort of abject failure that is portrayed as a foregone conclusion in these parts.

Just going to a bowl game (which even ISU manages a couple times a decade) is no big deal. 6-6 is a bad year, 7-5 is pretty blah, especially when you start with a schedule that basically gives you 5 wins. Iowa has 5 games left. Iowa need to win at least 3 to salvage a "respectable" season. Anything better than that can be classified as good. Anything less constitutes failure.

Yah get rid of Kirk. Put the team into at least a two year downward spiral while the new coaching staff gets organized. Does anyone really think we can get an Urban or a Les here?

So simple....just easy math, right? You have the inflow...now show the outflow, please.

Then let me know which programs or other salaries or facilities or T&E or.....your cutting.

You know basically ALL other sports operate in the deep red, right?

Barta will just go out and beg for more donations. It's all he's good at. Might as well get something out of him.

Another thread containing hopes and dreams from hyper-optimistic Hawk fans... with very few facts. A lot of hope, though. What's the word? Being pollyannish?

Lets wager on the NW game. They'll "roll" us? So I guess you'll give me Iowa and 10 points? I'll wager any amount of money on that.

We're gonna roll them. Sorry.
