I spent quite a bit of time in Nashville and Knoxville. I'm also from central Iowa. Nashville has a thriving music scene, and is a great place to spend some time. My former company was located there. Vanderbilt is there. Knoxville is a blast, and the natural beauty as you head into the Smoky Mtns is amazing.

Central Iowa, well, it was home for me. Great people in Iowa. No so exciting, and like anywhere, has its contingent of rednecks.

Used to live in Nashville. Very friendly people. Gorgeous. Nice weather, great music scene, great entertainment. After living in Vegas, NYC, Orlando, Atlanta and a few other major markets, I am just biding my time with my wife here in Des Moines until I can move back down to Nashville. Great place to raise a family too.

Well, Iowa was on the Union side back in the Civil War, so I guess we have that going for us.

Actually, per capita, Iowa sent more soldiers battle than any other state. Not relevant to the thread but just sayin.

There are 2 huge monuments in the Chattanooga area commemorating Iowa's role in the Civil War, more particularly in the Battle of Chickamauga and Chattanooga. Again, not relevant, but FWIW.

The slang term of 'cracker' according to an African-American friend of mine is derived from slave owners cracking the whip, not crackers are white so therefor white people are crackers.

So...Tennessee being a slave-owning state would qualify as more cracker than free-state Iowa.

+1. As if nobody in Iowa (or the North, for that matter) was stupid, racist, or backwards. And as if the only music in Tennessee is banjo music? WTH? Memphis=blues and rock. Nashville=country. Chattanooga has Usher, Iowa has Slipknot??? They're so melodic.

I have yet to see a real dirt, gravel country road down here. In Iowa, you can't miss 'em. Nothing wrong with that, just saying don't make generalizations you know nothing about.

Sorry, but Knoxville is, IMHO, a craphole. It's unnattractive, not particularly safe, and economically weak.

Acctually, most of the slave drivers were African slaves themselves, who were trusted by the masters and given special privlidges, such as a room in the master's house. Hence the term house man, as a black man who sells out other blacks for self-betterment.
