Just got Threat notification

Thanks all for the feedback.

My tech has run a complete server scan and we are not infected. Given that this happened at a specific time cluster this AM, I have some ideas what could have happened and am checking those out. I don't think this is going to keep happening today but if you see it again let me know

Mine happened yesterday, maybe 4pm?

Hey Racer, this hapened to me as well, one you download Malwarebytes, you will have to rename it, the virus will not allow you to continue with the install as it prevents it from installing using the default name. I have run this and my computer is still toast.

I didn't even click on anything to be downloaded, I was tossing some tomatos at faces poking through some holes and it sent me another screen, before I could click out of the new tab, wham, now all my screen shows now is gray. I have tried multiple times, but I think its toast. I was using IE, and using Windows Security, but not good enough.

Crap. I'll have to see when I get home.

I didn't click on anything (I think). Mine just happened.

JD - I was running ie at work and my computer has been in tech support bince 9 this morning. Went to hn and then bam. U had something bad in here.

Posted from my new iPad.

I ran into a couple last night. Symantec Endpoint Protection's real-time protection disallowed traffic to the IP that was requesting.

O/S: Win 7
Browser: Firefox 13.0

I wish I had SS'ed it, but didn't have time. I am looking back in my realtime logs to see if can find more info. My uneducated guess is that it was a banner ad attempting to get info.

Interesting. I was going to email John this morning after being on HN at work. All of a sudden my computer freaked out and a bunch of spyware was instantly installed on my computer. It hid a bunch of my icons and made critical errors to my hard drive.

From what I remember of the warning I would agree.

Just got the pop up again on my work computer, which doesn't allow me to take screen shots. There's something going on with your site, Jon.

I'm going to take a hawkeyenation vacation, because I don't want to mess up anything at work here.

Plus, my home computer is not operational now.

This icon downloaded on my computer... I'm thinking about clicking on it.

Looks safe enough.

Racerhawk.... First things first. Try to see if you can run System restore and go back a few days and see if that clears it off. Some viruses are easily removed by doing this. If not, Run Malwarebytes. It kills 99% of viruses. If not that, Combofix will be your savior and kill anything left behind. It's like napalming an ant, so use it with caution.

Thanks. I am going to take one particular ad vendor out of the matrix I use for the time being, until I feel comfortable the situation has been addressed.

A good option for those still having issues is to reboot in "Safe Mode with Networking" and then run your virus scan. After that, download a second virus scanner (I recommended Malwarbytes) and scan again. Use the full scan option not the quick scan. Then, defragment your system. Then run a disk clean on your C drive. Then reboot. If doing all that doesn't work, you probably just want to go back to your last restore point.
