Just for fun.....

Iowa hasn't had 20-25k open orders in, like ever. Sorry to the echo chamber. You are out numbered by sane people, people that look for something different than you when watching college kids play, or somethings else. You have also been neutered by TV money...fringes are gravy, not necessity

That was at the start of a new coach's tenure so there was new excitement. This would be on the tail end.

It was the start certainly but if you remember, there wasn't much, if any, excitement with the KF hire or during his first season and a half. Iowa was getting blown out most of the time and most people wanted Stoops and were not happy he wasn't there.

Steve Alford called, he wants his post back.

This is probably what KF said to GB in his contract negotiations. Sadly, you're right. You calling that group "sane" people isn't right, though. You're the justIowa people. "We're justIowa, after all...we can't win more or do better or get better players. As long as justIowa lets me drink outdoors six times a year and spend hundreds of dollars on gear and spend hundreds more to go to the Noone-Gives-A-Crap Bowl in Shreveport I'm good. justIowa doesn't need to recruit great players...if they get those scrappy, gritty, gutsy, corn-fed Iowa boys that KF can coach up into slightly-above-average players after four years, we should be thrilled."

But I'd be careful with that. There are lots of other options out there. The NFL thought they were invincible and in the course of 12 months a huge part of their audience has found better stuff to do. It wouldn't take much for Iowa to see the same thing happen.

-------most people wanted Stoops and were not happy he wasn't there.

Yes, and still pissed 17 years later....HORRIBLE decision made by Boob and the "Committee"

Yeah that was a big mistake. They passed on the better coach. The "little old Iowa, poor us" slogan Ferentz likes to promote would not have worked with Stoops. He would have done everything in his power to promote the school and raise Iowa's profile.

NO WAY can I watch five (5) more years of Ferments trying to catch lightning in a bottle with a bunch of 2 Stars from West Branch or Decorah.[/QUOTE]
This is so well said, true, and hilarious. But then pathetic when you consider what we pay out for a coach, and consider our great new facilities, money generated by athletics (top 20), affluence of alums, the fact we are in a top-level conference, etc.

I agree to some. Frankly, I think you'll continue to see downward attendance continue.....Everywhere, not just at 'justiowa'. TV for the B1G, like the NFL is the golden parachute. Silver lining is, the curbing of ticket price escalation. Not expanding Kinnick capacity was a smart move IMO, because yes their will be a down turn over time - with or without Kirk Ferentz. And. the revenue from the 'justiowa' contingent will buy suites where as the others might not grab their cheap sectioned seats and tshirt every other year or so.

I disagree on another. 'justiowa' is a pretty narrow description for those that aren't in the perpetual witch hunt crowd. Some, present company included, as 'justiowa' put everything into entertaining and bringing pride to fans... even the dip$hits that constantly ridicule in absurd and mean spirited ways. If you're honest, you realize a VAST number of posters here have NO idea how things work, are incapable of grasping and accepting realities if they don't fit their narrative.

I only continue to occasionally post in this cesspool because as someone that was very privileged to be a part of this proud program, I hope to give insight to counter these jokers. I get it that they are free to ridicule for reasons they deem credible. If someone is neither 'justiowa' or a miserable a$$hat, maybe they glean something.

Valid point. Yes, people were like "who?". After that season, the Iowa teams started to win a few more games, then finally enough wins to go to the bowl game so KF was building it right, Then 2002 lightening in a bottle.

People forget that Ferments took about two months to even show up at Iowa after being hired, because he didn't want to burn his NFL bridges. Just think how many 5.6 receivers he missed recruiting during those two months....not to mention all the Big Sky or Sun Belt transfers who never got to wear a Hawk uniform.

2+ losing seasons and they'll be having up close personal conversations about what's best. Until that happens....don't sit on a hot stove waiting.

I think KF did a great job of building the program back up. That said, he's also demonstrated that for whatever reason we've been incapable of maintaining that success year in and year out. IMO, coming from a long time KF supporter currently on the fence, I think it's time to figure out how to sustain that success and continue to try to get to that next level. I'm simply to the point where it's clear this staff will rise above mediocrity once every four years or so and its time to move on.
