Just finished watching replay of Iowa/Michigan from '03; wow, that team was loaded

I forgot just how much talent was on that 2003 team. Gallery, Sanders, Clark, Consedine, Kaeting (spelling?), Babineaux, Roth, Russell ... Fun game to watch. I sort of forgot all about Nathan Chandler at qb. That guy was huge (6'7, 250). Our special teams was lights out -- something that we have sort of been missing the past few seasons. Watching Kaeting kick was amazing. Not only was he dead accurate but each time he kicked a field goal the ball was normally way above the top of the goal posts.

I remember being at that game and still can't believe it was so many years ago. Yikes, time flies by. But it is fun to look back at the different Iowa teams and notice the strengths and weaknesses ... Russell was amazingly quick. I forgot just how short he was but also how the guy was built like a statue. Fun game ... Just reminded me of how much joy and pride Kirk & Co have brought to all of us. We are very fortunate to having him walk our sidelines.

I wnt to that game as well. Some of the best seats I've had there in fact. A couple of thoughts on that game and season:

Off the charts crowd noise in the 2nd half.

Too bad Brown, Lewis, & Hinkel weren't healthy all year.

Possibly the most physical team Iowa has ever had.

Michigan 2003 might have been the best team Iowa has beaten under Kirk. They were f'ning loaded. Their 3 losses that year were @Oregon, @Iowa, & USC in LA.

Factoring in the key injuries and with OSU and Michigan being legit top 5 teams with Purdue being very good as well, 2003 was probably Kirk's best coaching job at Iowa. That team maxed out.

I still give a slight edge to the 2004 team, simply because we had ZERO running game after Lewis went down. It's tough to win 7-1 in the Big Ten when you can't run the ball.

Also on that team: Chad Greenway and Abdul Hodge.

Clark wasn't on that team. He went to the NFL after the 02 season.

But, yes, loaded team. They were my first "bowl" team I saw in person.

I agree, the 2004 team was by far the best job of coaching. You just do not win without a running game in the Big Ten yet they found a way to get the job done.

The 2002 & 2003 team was loaded, to bad we did not get a NC out of it. :(

Awesome roster to be sure. Russell is one of my all time favorites. I'm not sure we've ever had another player who could move his feet as quick.

Saw that game the other day and thought the exact same thing.

I just loved how physical those teams were in 02,03 and 04.

Roth was just a beast

Erik Campbell was on the Michigan sideline for that one too
