Judging Brian Ferentz in Year 1

but 28 PPG should win you a lot of games.
Maybe.

But, that's only if 28 ppg was a good indicator of their season. In this case, it's obviously not. Rather, it's an example of how stats can be misleading.

28 ppg was their average, but that's a number they only hit 5 times in 13 games! They had 6 games ( 6 of their 9 B1G games! ) where they were under 20 points. Balanced by 4 games of 44+, to give that 28 ppg average.

First halves, especially, were consistently shaky.

I wonder what the offense's ppg was when you consider pick sixes/fumbles or points scored by opposition when we turned it over in our own redzone. Hmmmm

Greg Davis won a National Championship at Texas. Greg Davis led Iowa to it's only undefeated regular season...and an eyelash away from getting to the playoff and an absolute beating from Alabama. I'm ok with the comparison actually.

No, bud, Vince Young won a national title at Texas. Greg Davis had nothing to do with it.

You made me laugh. You never make me laugh. Quality shitpost Josh, quality shitpost.

Here are some 2017 Iowa stats I found interesting...

- Stanley had 26 TD passes. Tied for 2nd all time in Iowa history.
- Stanley had a 55.6 completion percentage. (That's not good)
- Stanley easily had a better year than 2016 Beathard. 2015 Beathard was better across the board though...except of course TD passes.

- Wadley averaged 4.4 yards per carry in 2017 compared to 6.4 in 2016. A full 2 yards less per carry...yikes

- Iowa's 2017 Tight Ends had 56 receptions for 840 yards and 14 touchdowns. Last year Iowa's Tight Ends caught 32 receptions for 389 yards and 5 touchdowns. For random reference, Dallas Clark's senior year he had 43 receptions for 742 yards and 4 touchdowns.

- Iowa allowed 25 sacks in 2017 compared to 30 in 2016.

- In 2017, Iowa averaged 329 yards per game and 28.2 points per game. In 2016, Iowa averaged 325 yards per game and 24.9 points per game

Year 1 of Brian Ferentz...Iowa's running game was pretty much awful. Was it injuries? Opponents? Terrible play design? Terrible play calling? Young QB missing reads? I'd say all of the above.

Stanley overthrew way too many passes and it seems like later in the season BF completely abandoned the downfield passing and check downs to Wadley. I have no idea why.

The tight ends were heavily involved in Iowa's offense this year. It was clearly a focus of BF's offense.
How many of Stanley’s incomplete passes were flagrantly dropped? How did his deep passes improve? Those are the stats I’d like to see. And the run game was just terrible, but what’s new with Ferentz. When the run doesn’t work, just keep running,

We had 28 defensive points that are being counted into that 28 ppg figure. Backing out the 28 defensive points (JJack x 2, Hooker, Snyder) removes about 2.2 ppg from our total takes our 28.07 ppg down to 25.92 ppg.

You can win games scoring under 20 too. We won 8 total, again, only stat that matters.

And those 8 wins are what legends are made of.
Believe what you will, how many wins did Hayden avg? Your evaluation of talent is better than NFL Gm's and the vast majority of college football coaches who say KF is one of the best? His name was mentioned THIS YEAR for NFL jobs. But yea, i think your coaching consulting firm that you founded probably knows better.

No...it's the fact that he's had major success at Iowa and every year his teams have a chance to have 2015 type of seasons. We have a legitimate chance to win every game. The way he prepares his teams gives us that chance. When you look at this year...there were three or four other wins that could have happened if players made a few more plays. It was a young team. Can we be more dynamic on offense...sure...and I honestly believe his son will get us there. There were glimpses this year of that fact. Fant had 11 touchdowns...positive. We played a ton of young talent...positive.

What really sucks for you and your disdain for Kirk Ferentz is that he isn't going anywhere. When fall rolls around, KF will be prepping his team for another season and you will be whining in your cheerios about how he keeps his job. The rest of us keep our optimism about what can happen and recognize there is more to this than just the football. Whether you like it or not, he's an ambassador for the University and what is good in College Football. He has also earned the respect of those who understand what it takes to build a program in college football. Legend...not sure about that, but I'm glad he's leading our program.

No I think it's just people get really tired of your nothing but negative ass posts EVERYWHERE! You obviously take great pride in being a prick cause you are really good at it. Even the pics you represent yourself with make you look like one. Are you even really a Hawk fan? Give it a rest just once...

GO HAWKS!

Lighten up, dude.

That's your definition of a legend, huh?

"We have a legitimate chance to win every game" ???

Of course, we lose 5 or 6 times a year most years lately, but the important thing is we have a chance!

No, I didn't say he was a legend...read the post. I said, "Legend, not so sure about that...but I'm glad he's leading our program."

I'm confused...so you don't want a legitimate opportunity to win every time you step on the field?

Listen, if KF wasn't making changes and bringing in new coaches, etc..., Polasek / Copeland / O'Keefe (returning), I would say you guys can bitch all you want. The reality is he's making changes and trying to elevate the program. Here are a few areas:

Recruiting is pointing up...think about all the young players who saw the field this year.
In game coaching I believe has gotten better / very few clock management issues.
More aggressive on fourth down / fake punts / fake field goals.
More vertical passing...with a rookie QB...we threw the ball down the field when we could protect him.

Pretty soon all the whining will wear you down, and you will be back on the Ferentz bandwagon like you were in 2015.

I just read this entire thread.

this thread would have been a lot shorter. He kept yall coming back. Not saying he's trolling, just challenging and I think he was smiling the whole time.
