Josh Oglesby

I think he could be effective if he's allowed to spot up, catch and shoot. He doesn't shoot well coming off screens or any type of movement. Drives or post feeds and kick outs, or skip passes with him in a set spot seems to be his best chance of success. They don't do much of that, though, so he doesn't add much right now.

Fran needs to have the conversation with JO at the end of the season and politely tell him it's time to look elsewhere for playing time and go out and recruit a JUCO sharp shooter.

1) We haven't even seen that from him.
2) Rarely going to get that kind of space in the B1G.

wait a sec....i'm channeling herby....can't control myself.....

,,why does every0ne hate josh so much??
joshoglesby - 6'5"-202lb 3*recruit
lifelong hawkeyeand loves his mama
cedar rapppids is what mak3s america great
i dont' misses gatens at all josh is twice the man matt was and even on off days he is still the best, shooter on the team and plays the best in practice, just ask gabe he talks to me in my dreams and he is a real shooter just give him a chance cause when,,,he gets hot that ball isn't not going to go it, when did matt ever do that besides all those games last year?, i don't think any of you are real hawkeyes and i can't beleiveee you would turn your back on a 3* recruit becuase itss a battle to recruit this states,,,
last year 37% from 3 this year 27% that's only a 1% difference from what i can tell, so why do you still hate our best shooter when he bleeds black and gold???!!!?? hes only missing 3 shots per game and making 1 so i don't see what the difference is would you rather woodbury shoots the 3s and misses or JO makes them all???!!!?

Love it!

And what did Clemmoms and Gessell do good tonight?

You seem to be under the impression that frustrations with Oglesby stem solely from last night. In case you didn't notice, Josh is shooting 27.5% from behind the arc and just 29.6% overall. That's over the course of 16 games, not a one-game knee jerk. Gesell and Clemmons didn't play well last night, no. But they've shown plenty of flashes this year. Growing pains are to be expected from freshmen point guards. But Oglesby's problem isn't decision making. It's his apparent lack of ability to make shots in games, when his ONLY purpose on the floor is to do just that.

Oglesby is to great 3-point shooting as CJF is to great TE play. All hype.

So you're telling me that Eric May is more useful than JO in the long run?? What the hell does Ingram even do? Stand there?

Both of those guys play better defense than Oglesby, and are no worse offensively right now. Edge to May/Ingram.

Was pleased with May's performance. Can't ask much more from the guy as he's really not a good basketball player. I really hope we see more of Ingram. It's obvious that he's lacking confidence right now, and that's understandable given his lack of experience. However, you can see the ability is there.

I was pleased with his defensive effort, and I'm not sure I agree about the lack of confidence. He wasn't afraid to try and take it into the lane. It didn't work, but he wasn't scared to go in there. He's a bit of a project, but I think he could be a valuable piece down the road, maybe as more of a Mike Henderson type of role player (Henderson circa 2005-06, but coming off the bench)

I guess I notice when he gets the ball, especially when the game is tight, he's looking to unload it pretty quickly. He looked more confident after he made that nice move to the basket, but otherwise seems kind of tentative. Either way, he's bringing more to the table right now than Oges.

Agreed, and I think we'll be seeing quite a bit of him over the next couple weeks. Maybe not as much on Sunday, but against more physical teams, he will be out there a lot more than he has been.

Whats the alternative to not playing him? More mins for Ingram?? That scares me more. Unfortunatly Oglesby and Marble are the only Hawks that have any track record at all of knocking down 3s. If for no other reason then the threat teams are guarding him as such and not helping off of him. That said him playing better overall and getting hot wouldn't hurt a thing

The problem with that is him playing and not getting hot he has made 19 3s and missed 50 how many more 0-4 nights do we want to watch.

Marble is a legacy guy connected to the U of I. Lick's best recruit of the bunch. The only sensible one out of that class that could really blossom. McCabe is a guy that can give you minutes here and there, but is not "Flint, Michigan" caliber. And, Marble still has a lot prove to fill his "NBA shoes" like his dad and him talked about.

May is an athletic Rudy at Iowa.

The Lick left overs are certainly not all world.
