Josh Oglesby

Fact of the matter is both of them are practice squad members on the top contending teams in the Big Ten...if that. I talked with a 4A high school coach (to be unnamed) that could not believe JO was coming to Iowa. He said a real head scratcher and did not get that one at all.

Iowa needs to be more Flint, Michigan and less borderline Lickliter left-overs and non-athletic and slow Iowa farm boy shooters.....unless they can really shoot the ball when it matters.

When Iowa starts looking like Michigan St, you will know they have really arrived. Hopefully Fran can build his freshman recruiting class (Woodbury/Gessell) around some ballers in the future.

I still contend the extra weight and muscle that he has put on has messed him up and then if you factor in a coach raves about how pure his shooting stroke is only to later begin "tweaking it" in hopes of getting a quicker release has served to also mess with his head. I would not be surprised to see Josh have 1 or 2 games where he lights it up for 21pts or whatever but in my opinion he is not going to be a guy that can create his own space and frankly even has trouble coming off ball screens. Unfortunately, I also believe this may be one of the worst teams I have seen in terms of setting ball screens so it's not all on JO.

He just hasn't been the shooter Iowa needs him to be. Nothing more, nothing less.

Jok and Uthoff should help.

Agree with Jon that on a team of poor shooters, Oglesby stands out simply because of the role he was recruited to play. Too many games into the season to say he is in a shooting slump. He hasn't been hitting against weak non conference teams who slacked on D, so I am not holding my breath for better results in conference play when guys will stay in his face. To offset our anemic 3 point shooting, I would like to see McCaffrey give more PT to Woodbury and Basabe. Let them foul out of games late in the second half if they pick up 2 early fouls We are not going to win on the perimeter and those two guys give us the best chance at scoring in the post and getting boards. I had high hopes for White taking the next step, but teams are really focusing on keeping him off the glass, so his garbage / hustle points aren't there and he struggles to get shots in the offense.

JO isn't a lickliter recruit?

I don't know what Oglesby's problem is. His shot looks terrible in terms of form. Right now he's a liability out there and he's got to turn things around fast or he'll fine more time on the bench. Iowa can't wait for Jok to get here, they need a 3 point threat now if they want to win games.

Yep. He doesn't suck, unlike some on here say. However, it may be best to let him ride the pine for awhile. He's still got two more years in this program, and they won't be any better than this one if he keeps pressing and shooting off-balance, twisting shots. His results have been poor, there is absolutely no disputing that, but many/most on here felt Gatens had disappointed his whole career (or at least Soph through mid-Senior year) until he had a two-game stretch knocking down about 15/18 last year.

It seems we all remember Gatens as a sharpshooter now, but even (or especially) as a Junior, he was streaky and had what felt like a decent number of 0-fer games. It's hard to be your team's lone three-point threat, even if that title (as in Oglesby's case) is more based on potential right now than anything.

Thank God Fran is a better recruiter than Lick or Alford. JO is running out of time to prove he can play and be effective in the Big Ten. With Jok and Uthoff coming next year, and Clemmons, Gessel, Marble, and Ingram all being more athletic and better basketball players he may be the first to transfer to a lower D 1 school. Hope he proves me wrong but he reminds me of Cully Payne.

Thank you. Thank you.

It's also a bit scary when your go-to three-point threat at the end of games is Zach McCabe, as it was last night. Nothing against Zach as he had a monster game last night, offensively and defensively (mad props for the charge he absorbed from Nix). But your outside offense needs to come from someone other than a player you're relying on to play down low...

Excellent analogy.

With all due respect Mr Jon Miller... I still believe in Josh (BIJ) There still has too many down and in's or arounds shots that came out.

I still believe the shoulder/back problems will work them selves out along with the "coaching change for quicker delivery" that JO is working through...

JO is ready and willing to get off and finish out winning games for the Hawkeyes.

Really? Now we're seeking moral victory in missed shots because they were "almost in" missed shots? Is the "we lost, but we were close in all those games" mentality from football creeping in here? god i hope not.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I would almost rather see Ingram play JO's minutes. At least he would have the threat to drive to the basket.

Not crazy. I think Ingram would have matched up a bit better with MSU's physical play last night.

I get tired of hearing about JO being a sharpshooter. He has not proven that in two years yet we keep hearing that from coaches, announcers, etc.... There is a place for a player like JO on a team like the Hawks, but only if he is hitting at least 45% of his 3's. That is a sharpshooter. He has proven to be a 30% 3 pt shooter which means he shouldn't ever be on the floor. He doesn't create shots for others and he is not a great defender, so if he is not shooting over 40% from 3 he should never get a chance to play. Like previous posters said, Ingram would give us more than JO does.

Don't get me wrong because I like the JO type of role players but if they can't perform their role then they shouldn't play.

The big issue with the basketball team is a lack of talent in the art form of placing a round ball into a round cylinder from more than 4 feet away.

I have yet to witness a worse shooting team in years of watching basketball.

We can guard when we want to. We can run. We can rebound. We can pass (sometimes) and we can dunk.

15 foot jumper?

Not so much.
