Team records are certainly important but these players are at schools who do a lot of PR for their programs, and building up their best players in terms of national awards is recognized as an important aspect of recruiting and name recognition.

But since that is not part of the KF formula for little ol' Iowa football, it is ignored.

But he's also played one less game... I agree it's not surprising in that players on winning teams get more attention it's just the way it is. Totally unfair to those involved on the teams not as good though. I think it's more impressive that guys like Jewel do what they do. To play that many snaps and maintain his production is just impressive. Is this a media award or coaches? I'd be surprised if coaches would screw over a guy like Jewel. The media when it comes to awards is a political joke I give next to no credence to anymore.

NFL linebackers aren't as big and bulky as they used to. Now they have to run around more. I look at guys like Kirksey and Hitchens in the league and I think JJ can play similarly to them so be it inside or out he'll be just fine I bet.

Hate to do the white guy comparison thing, but I will go ahead and do it. Maybe NFL scouts see some Sean Lee or maybe Luke Kuechly in JJ. They are not going to waste a 1st or 2nd rd. pick on him, but a 3rd or 4th is possible.

Any award that would leave JJ out as a candidate when he has over 20 more tackles than the next closest guy, leads all of them in TFL and PBU, and is the only one of the seven who has at least one interception, forced fumble, and fumble recovery...is meaningless.

He leads at least three of the candidates in all of the rest of the categories.

NFL scouts will look at his stats, and some dumb popularity contest won’t mean a thing.
