Joseph Toye Commits To....

We also lost that borderline Top 100 pg out of Wisconsin to Vanderbilt. Recruiting basketball players to Iowa City ain't easy, see last 15 years,

At least he committed early, this way we don't waste more time on him, and move onto the next prospect.

Sounds like a good kid, too bad we couldn't get him, so now I'm thinking of a post from last week when Jok got busted....Fran couldn't really comment on that situation as he was recruiting in Cali...I wonder who....You guys have anything on that?

Vandy is the Harvard of the South, and costs 75k/yr. Iowa does not measure up to Vandy or NW academically.

I am discouraged by our recruiting. When Iowa hires a bb coach, recruiting is the biggest challenge and the most important aspect of the job. I like Fran very much, but once again I am not sure we make it clear to him that he will have to be 50% better recruiting than all other Big Ten coaches. We need a super-recruiter to have a chance to compete in the league....just being average will not cut it.

I get tired of always having to depend on ''projects'' in bb and football. I know...we are just Iowa and we should not expect to ever attract top players from out of state, unlike Hoiberg. Fran needs to hire Calipari's top recruiter and give him 1 million/yr.

Careful, pal. You're coming close to criticizing a walk-on. A preferred one at that.

Well, Fran can't get to everyone who's out there....and besides once this team figures out themselves how to seal the deal, then maybe Fran & Co. can also....terrible way to end the season....winning is everything and it's certainly the case for high school kids...Now granted Vandy went 15-16, so I'm kind of confused as to why he didn't want to come here or even Creighton since he's from Chi-town....Not sure what more can be said to a young man who's trying to make the best decision for him and his family....Gotta keep the faith I guess that Fran will start gettin' some of these guys....

Possibly. But it's only a verbal, not a LOI. I'm guessing someone keeps a line open to him until he actually signs on the dotted lion.

They won't close the door, but they are probably recruiting ten other guys that are as good as he is. There are a lot of good players.

Think Fran needs to set up his staff a little better to help with the recruiting?? I am pretty sure he's got the Xs and Os down. Seems like the assistant coaches are just as big if not bigger in this process.

The guys who are "super recruiters" aren't looking to take over a bottom of the B10 program.

There's a pretty big difference between the time and resources invested into recruiting a player that will be on scholarship vs. a walk-on. It seems that you don't understand the difference, simple as it is.
