Jon's instant reax to playoff poll

Sports is about fairness, integrity, competition, and sportsmanship. ESPN says that doesn't matter, but money does. Well said Jon. Your right on the majority of the time. Love listening to your podcasts.

Love listening to you all year Jon, you have really nailed it this year especially, great great pods and written articles!

that was some good stuff....
couldn't agree more. Not sure we should be at 9, but happy as hell we are there.

All the sec drivel gets really old....

Good football for dummies article too. The only thing I disagree with is not having a problem with where we're ranked. I have a huge issue with being behind TCU and Baylor. If one of them makes it through the rest of their schedule undefeated and jump us, it's one thing. But at this exact point in time, we should be ahead of them. Same with Alabama. If they make it through the rest of their schedule without another loss by beating a top 5 team and a top 10 team, they should maybe pass us. Maybe. At this point in time though, all they are is a team who lost to a 2 loss team at home.

Quoting NWA is GOSH DARN gold.

Great podcast! I am sick of the corruption of SEC athletics and the minions that support it. We should copy and post the link to this podcast on every college football forum we can so the college football world can realize the stench and filth that ESPN is about.

I actually think this disrespect is a perfect recipe for this team being shaper. Build that chip on the shoulder up as high as possible.

Well done, Jon. Listening to David Pollack ........who? talk about any team from the
Midwest is painful. How the he** does he get that gig?

Does he have Pics of some ESPN exec or something?

The Northwestern common opponent rant is GOLD,
Jon. Gold, I'm telling ya

Made my day! It will be a stitch when ESPN has to shell out more $$ in the next contract year. They are going to learn to hate Jim D. Only themselves to blame.

Your attacks on the "logic" used by the talking heads to justify their positions will be embarrassing to ESPN...but they do "buy ink by the barrel."

I hope now, more than ever that Iowa goes 12-0 and plays for the trophy. Leaving for Indiana on Friday.

I think every point Jon makes it valid, and in many ways I appreciate the Iowa media making the Hawks case heard.

However, personally I refuse to get caught up in all of this BS. Because that's exactly what it is. It's just BS. The national media and talking heads at ESPN can say whatever they want. Iowa's destiny is in their own hands. It's not a surprise to me in the least bit that Iowa is getting disrespected at this point in time. Iowa isn't flashy. We're a small state population wise. We don't offer ESPN the same number of viewers that other teams do. Etc., etc, etc. Everyone knows these things so I guess I just refuse to allow myself to get upset about it.

There's way too much football left to be played. Iowa has to take care of business and so do the teams in front of them. If Iowa wins out and is screwed later on then I will absolutely get torked about it. At this point I just think it's a little premature.

That was your finest work to date, Jon. Kudos to you. I listened to it twice.

However, I was fine with Iowa fb before I listened. Afterward I was so angry that I couldn't sleep so I stayed up rage-tweeting at college fb talking heads. Of course, they don't read my tweets or care what I think, but it made me feel better.

This is a year that Iowa can boost their recruiting by being in the national spotlight, but when you hear the ESPN guys slamming Iowa around every corner, that doesn't help anything.

It's not just Iowa fans that hear this, it's recruits as well. People are ignorant. They tend to think that if they saw something on TV, it must be true (Brian Williams). They can't distinguish for themselves the difference between opinion and fact. Most people outside the BIG footprint haven't watched Iowa play, or looked more closely at Iowa's schedule and opponents so far this season. They are taking ESPN at face value, and that is damaging to Iowa's brand and recruiting abilities.

I'm glad that Jon is doing his part to correct the incorrect national narrative. Will Iowa be 13-0 and in the playoff when it's all said and done? Probably not. But that doesn't make it acceptable for a big media outlet like ESPN to speak falsely of the Iowa Hawkeyes.

I've never hated ESPN more than I do right now.

This is why college hoops is still light years ahead of college football. Everything is based on rankings, which can be manipulated by biased voters, and those who are highly rated in the pre-season polls have a clear advantage. At least in college hoops, any team with a realistic shot at winning it all WILL be in the NCAA Tournament and will have the opportunity to do it on the court, regardless of how much bias there is.

College football - if you're not a member of the good ole boys club and don't have a seat at the round table, it's uphill sledding.

You are right. People will believe whatever line of BS is fed them. But they are also a "what have you done for me lately" group with a very short memory.
When Iowa finishes the season 13-1 and champions of some prestigious bowl game, that's what recruits will remember. Not what drivel Colin Cowherd upchucked back in early November.

Great podcast, as usual.

My view....yes, the Hawks are being disrespected by the national media. Hopefully the players use this as a motivating tool. But personally, I guess I don't really care that much. If Iowa keeps winning, the respect will come. If they lose, then they really didn't belong in the discussion. There is a lot of football to be played. This first poll is only a starting point. Things are going to change A LOT in the next 4 weeks.

Right now (assuming CJ doesn't get sidelined by further injury) I'm thinking worst case scenario for the Hawks is 10-2 and the Holiday Bowl. Not bad! Not bad at all!
