Jonathon Dwyer comment per espn

Add to that the idiotic play by Dwyer that was a near safety, his second half INT, and a missed field goal and it's simple to see where this kid and GT is coming from, IMO.

Umm... Dwyer is the RB, or B-back or whatever you want to call him. Nesbitt threw the INT.

I was unclear - my fingers moving too fast. I am referencing two seperate plays by two seperate players.
Dwyer had the "idiotic" 11 yard loss that was a near safety. There was also the INT by the QB.

That leaves my total the same: 9 penalties. 1 idotic play. 1 int. 1 missed field goal.

This is the "problem" with teams that win with defense.

When a team has a great offense and wins, it's because they are a good team. When a team wins becasue of a stout defense, it's considered to have won because the other team had an "off" night.

We saw it all season long, experts kept saying "Iowa squeaked by".... again, and again, and again.

Defensive minded teams don't get credit for being good teams. Most of the time they are considered "lucky".

KF and Norm Parker are making a living being "lucky" and will continue to laugh all the way to the bank because no one else is any the wiser.

Unless it's Alabama.

They were a bunch of arrogant, over-confident pinheads who continue to show a lack of respect for a team even after what should have been a humbling experience. They should have shown class by acknowledging defeat to a better team.

I have to think that in 10 years he'll be more in line with the truth, realizing they just got their arses kicked.

"They were good and they had some good players," Dwyer said. "But I really think that we just shot ourselves in the foot, man. We were just nervous."

lol

Yes, I think teams tend to get "nervous" when you knock them to the ground repeatedly like they are little girls. I don't think GT fell down by themselves.

To be honest the comment doesn't really surprise me.

If you watched the game and saw the way he was reacting on the sideline everytime the defense forced a three and out, you could see how frustrated he was getting. Early on everytime he went to the sideline you could see him complaining to someone about how "they" must have done something wrong that caused the defensive stop. Later in the game he just had his head down.

I am certainly glad that even when things were not going well during the season, the leaders on the Iowa team always seemed to have their head up and were looking for a way to get things done. Appeared to me he was looking for someone else to blame???

The contrast in body language between the two team was quite striking last night. Right about the time GT punted for the 3rd time (on their first 3 possesion), you could see the shoulders start to droop and the finger pointing start.

Their defense was better than I thought it would be, and actually held up pretty well when you consider how long they were on field. In every quarter but the 3rd, Iowa held the ball for at least 8 minutes.

Iowa was pretty good and had some good players. We were just nervous.

= Sore loser. Full stop.

Iowa DOMINATED the game, notwithstanding one scoring drive in 4th Quarter.

There is no question that Iowa dominated and is the better team. That was very clear last night

But I don't really think there is anything wrong with a player who just got done playing a game he was fully invested emotionally in saying, "I think we shot ourselves in the foot."

I'm guessing your opinion would be a lot different if Iowa had lost the game, and that quote had come from Stanzi or Clayborn.

You're being contrary just for the sake of it, and it couldn't be more obvious.

Got to agree with C17 on this one...the kid was speaking from emotion after getting his a$$ handed to him. Pride won't let most guys cop to the truth minutes after a big loss...ask him the same question after looking at film a couple of days later and he'd probably say, "man, they flat whooped us up front".

I was actually walking out of the GT/my hotel at 4:00 a.m.ish today and he was walking in limping noticeably. Not like he had a bad ankle but more like his whole body was having a hard time. Georgia Tech fan noted "that's our starting running back." Not to say that the Hawks weren't banged up too, but Adrian Clayborn, moreso than Dwyer's nerves, had a lot to do with the way he was walking.

I think you guys are being a little harsh with the kid. A lot of times when a team loses players can look back at 5-10 plays and wish they had done something different. Some players come out and say that, some don't.

I don't think he made excuses at all. Just said how he felt

I won't disagree with that except to say 5-10 plays does not 300 yards and 20 points below your average make.

Of course they were nervous. Clayborn was liable to rip one of their arms or heads off at any given moment.
