Jon, why are you concerned Ames won't be "safe"?

I find your comment on the home page teaser regarding the 5 p.m. start @ Iowa State -- "Is that even safe?" -- puzzling. Why should Ames be any worse than a late afternoon or night kickoff in Iowa City, Lincoln, Minneapolis, Columbus, Evanston, even Madison? I mean I dislike the Cyclones as much as any Hawkeye fan but that strikes me as sort of a cheap shot. Just curious...

Ever been to Ames?

Considering on the CyFan thread there were a couple of people already spouting off how they are going to get drunk as hell and pick fights with any "man woman and child" wearing black and gold...you can get the picture.

The honest answer is that the tailgating is way more centralized in Ames than other places. It really depends on when they open the lots.

You serious, Clark? He's obviously referring to the copious amounts of alcohol that will most likely be consumed in the six "extra" hours of time between 11a and 5 p. Add that it's a rivalry game where tensions would be high and there's your potential Molotov cocktail.

Night starts for a bitter rivalry game tend to mean more alcohol consumption, less restraint, and therefore more problems ... regardless of Iowa City or Ames.

Horror stories and mythology about the problems are far worse than reality ... regardless of Iowa City or Ames.

I guess the bolded is my point. I thought the publisher of a serious sports web site would be cognizant of that.

This.

Combine the general level of <ahem> "sophistication" in Ames, with a healthy disdain and envy of anything black and gold.. and you have a formula for trouble.

I've been to one game in Ames, that was enough for me. I won't even take the Ames exit to take a pizz when driving up I-35

Honestly Iowa State fans could say the same thing. I know I won't be going back to iowa city.

Well the Clowns are coming off their version of a National Title season. They will be terrible and punching children.

Punching children. Laffy comment of year. I believe more children should be punched but just didn't think it was ok to say it.
