I agree with you that the lines have been blurred between positions for most teams, but a lot of times it is out of necessity rather than planned design. Most coaches would still like to have an elite, true point guard (like Morris or Ulis) running the show.

Exactly this. Fran isn't playing "positionless" basketball because that's what he wants he just never got the true PG he wanted on the recruiting trail and he went after a lot of them

Yep, the people who still hang wring over having 2 "true" centers make me laughy.
PG is still an important position for sure. Yet you can overcome that with good guard/wing play. Ideally any more having three or 4 guys that are 6'8-6'10 that can run the floor, mix it up down low and can shoot a little is ideal. I'm pretty excited about the combination of Cook, Wagner, Kreiner, and Pemsl taking on that role for the next 3-4 years. Add in Nunge and Garza and look pretty solid with bigs.
Who knows how many were commitable offers tho. He could have easily found a true point with his last scholarship each of the last 2 years. Instead he signed another lanky wing. His first option is obviously elite point guard. After that, he wants best available player. That means he cares about a point guard. Just not that much.

Look at the PG's we've offered in the last couple of years and where they ended up. I'm pretty sure all of them or almost all of them were going to be takes if they wanted to commit

Totally agree PC. Fran signed the PG he wanted in Bohannon last Nov. The year before that he got Williams. Fran could have easily brought in a Cartwright type PG or transfer this spring as well, but instead he wanted Dailey.
I think that Fran offers some scholarships on the contingency that players they think will help their program more goes elsewhere or one of the current players at that position on the team transfers. Getting a scholarship offer from the University of Iowa is a gift for some players; because, they will automatically start getting attention from other programs.
I read where Wagner is up to 233 lbs this year. Wagner, Uhl, Cook, Kriener, Jones and Pemsl are all as heavy or heavier than Woodbury was last year. Woodbury was fun to watch, but Iowa is going to have a lot more power in the middle this year. Woodbury wasn't much of an offensive threat while Wagner, Uhl, Cook, Kriener, Jones, and Pemsl all have three point range. It should be an interesting year.

I'm a huge juco guy and flipping through programs and rosters it amazes me how many times I'll actually see C listed on a roster. Generally its just Guards and Forwards, with the occasional player being labeled a Post, generally because they have no outside game, but still rarely play with their back to the basket.
Yes and no. What he's saying is that Fran's not just going to take 'any' PG. They have to be at a certain skill level. Otherwise, Fran's getting the skills from non-traditional sources.

I did read some where that one of the Bohannon brothers has said Jordan is the best of the Bohannon lot. I certainly hope this is true.
I googled Adam Woodbury and they had him at 235 pounds. I saw where he was listed at 6 ft 111/2. Even if he was two hundred and fifty pounds wagner would probably be stronger than him at 6 ft 7. You can find all kind of different weights.

Official Iowa site lists him at 245lbs as a junior. For some reason it won't show him under his senior year, but I'm pretty sure he was listed at 250lbs.

It is a good thing to have competition among the players. This prepares the players for actual game experience. It would be very nice to have two point guards, each who bring their own style to the game. Christian likes to take it to the basket and has a nice medium range shot. Jordan may be a deadly sniper from three range. Both seem to handle the ball well. This will improve with actual gametime experience.
I don't think Fran was saying that Cook was better than Wagner. He was simply saying that he is the best freshman he has had at Iowa. That includes everyone else, not just Wagner. I would like to know who is a better freshman.that Fran has coached elsewhere.
Going to be an interesting season. In a way it is a nice thing to have no Final Four expectations. This season we can enjoy the constant improvement and the occasional upset. I am ready for this.
