Jok named Iowa's Mr. Basketball

That's an insane f/t percentage. Maybe the most telling stat.

That is crazy 126-136 FT.

Wish I could have seen Jok face Iowa City West in the State tournament. Would have been nice to see Jok vs some of the talent on West an undefeated West team.

He won it over Morgan? What a JOKe!

You think Morgan should have won the award?

His team did better Jok's but Jok put up better stats. I guess I have no idea if the award is for the best player stat wise or the best player on the best team who might not have the stats as a someone else. I guess the thought is Jok has higher upside at the next level as well?

I could see the argument for Morgan wining the award. I just don't know what criteria the award is based on.

I watched that 3A game and thought that kid from waverly has a lot of potential too. Going to uni. I think he will be a tough player. Tall, can dribble drive, smart.

I think there is a chance that Jok redshirts next year. If he doesn't, I think his impact will be minimal.

Barring injury, I would be shocked if he redshirts, Iowa needs guys who can score. I don't expect him to be anywhere close to a consistent, big time scorer, but I do think he will be able to come in and knock down 2-3 threes in some games and give Iowa an offensive boost and draw defensive attention.

Also, things are falling in place for a serious B10 title run next year, this is why I'm against redshirting Olesani too.

I think he shoots way to good to only have a minimal impact. I think he will have a marble like freshman year. Probably a better player then marble as a freshman but won't play as much due to being on a better team.

We just need a handful of guys to declare for the draft early and we will be in great shape for a title run.

Having never seen Jok play... I hear he's a great shooter and I hope his knee continues to stay healthy for a nice long career for the Hawks!

Jeremy Morgan must have been an awfully close 2nd for Mr. Basketball. He can shoot/score alright... but it was his defense and the ability to totally destroy the other team's offense (particularly in the half court set) that was amaizing to watch.

True, he played on a talented team... but he was the catalyst that made IC West virtually impossible to beat (with absolute acknowledgements to WDM Dowling... who had that game 98.5% won).

I'm anticpating Ogelsby as a Junior shooting better than Jok as a true freshman thus there won't be as much of a need for Jok. We also have Ingram who will still be available on the bench. Although he is not a shooter, he can log some minutes at the wing possition when neccesary.

Why would you anticipate that? Ogelsby as a sophomore was much worse shooter than Ogelsby as a freshman. What leads you to believe he will be better than Jok next season.

Well, right now Josh needs to reverse the trend as he will probably be the WORST three point shooter in the country with over 50 attempts. I will go on record right now that if Jok gets 50 attempts at the three next year...he will not shoot worse than Ogelsby this year. I'll also go on record saying that no one on next year's team with 50 attempts shoots worse than Ogelby this year. Think about all the open looks JO has had...I know it's hard to predict what happens when the lights go on in the big arena, but Jok's stroke looks so effortless, I think he becomes a weapon for us...immediately. The bigger question to me is whether he can play enough defense to stay on the floor...or get on the floor for that matter.

He's only a weapon if he can play D and run the court with the other Hawks currently on the team. If he can't he'll get red shirted.

I have to agree, his defensive ability will get him playing time. This team is really coming around defensively as a unit, and I don't see that changing for one player.

For anyone who has seen him play, how is Jok for defense? Is he good on containment? Does he keep 'em up tight? Go for loose balls? Take the charge?

I think Ogelsby bounces back next year and shoots the 3 better than his FR year. I just think this is all in his head. Flush the year after it is done, and next year he should shoot better.

Gut feeling and I just think Josh is too good of a shooter to continue to struggle like he has this year. Thus I think his numbers will increase... he will become an upper classman and true freshman typically struggle.

I'm also concenred with Jok's inability to lead his team to state. I understand it is a team sport but guys like Woody, Paige, even Glen Worley bakc in the day all took their teams to state. Granted it is a team sport but even if Jok isn't the one scoring due to drawing the attention of the D, I would have hoped he would have made the players around him better and created opportunites for them to score.

Ogelsby shot 17/59 from 3 in the B10 as a freshman, 29%, taking out his 6/8 against Indiana he shot 11/51 for 22%, pretty much in line with his 26% this season. It's quite possible he's just not that good of a shooter.

(Although he was 7/11 in the BTT last year, hopefully that repeats itself this year)

And who cares if Jok didn't lead his team to state, Anthony Davis' high school team was 6-19 his senior year.

I would consider redshirting Jok next year as well. I might include Ingram too. We will have more than enough talent to contend in the Big Ten next year without them and unless Jok is a total defensive stud, I seriously doubt he will see the minutes that make it worth burning a year.
