Jok - he gone

Somebody go take the tires off his hog, put it on blocks, pull the battery, take the seat off, remove the handle bars, etc. This kid had an itch to ride, a need for speed, we gotta remove the sled from the situation.

Jon, can you please close this thread? The longer it remains live and shows up on the landing page, the longer it could give people (cough...cough ... teh Mayor) ideas.

Or how about the administration and fan base lighten up. Moped violations - seriously!!! Nothing screams come to the University of Iowa more than the ICPD and moped violations. What's next indefinite suspensions for J-Walking?

Fran needs to tell everyone including Barta to shove it. When this program is circling the drain because we cannot recruit or retain players under this kind of anti players environment no one will be cutting Fran any slack because of this ridiculous situation.

I agree with most of this. Without injecting politics into this, there is just a social collectivism, uber-control mindset at all levels of Iowa City government -- and to a degree, the university administration -- that does not match up with reality. Want to keep the streets safe and to protect the citizens and students? Fine, crack down on the big stuff and do what is essential to provide for public safety on the rest of it. But tickets for moped violations? Iowa City cops would get laughed out of most police stations in the rest of the world. At its most basic, Iowa City is a medium sized Midwestern city that thinks and acts like a small town. You almost expect to see Sheriff Taylor and Deputy Fife wandering down Iowa Avenue to go visit with Floyd the barber or Gomer Pyle.

Unfortunately, that city is also home to a B1G university.

I agree. The police in Iowa City should definitely look the other way when a kid is driving drunk on his moped.

He wasn't pulled over for being drunk or driving erractly. He was pulled over twice for improper lights, and a flag violation. I mean nothing screams criminal louder than a flag missing from a moped, good thing the IC police are on the lookout for these hardened criminals.

Actually I think the police report said something like "he was having trouble maintaining control of his vehicle" or something along those lines. If a D1 athlete doesn't have enough coordination to handle a moped at .087 then they need to lower the legal limit to .05 at least.

deanvogs defends drunk driving, its not a crime or even bad idea as long as you're good at it.

1st time he made an improper turn and was pulled over and hit with owi.

2nd time he was driving a moped that was up to road standards and got caught driving with suspended license.

an improper turn is dangerous because he wasn't in a turn lane and then he was found to be under the influence. The second if he had a flag and tail lights he wouldn't have been pulled over. It isn't about whether it is as bad of a crime as theft or murder or what ever, it is about the stupidity to do something illegal right after being caught doing something illegal.

He was actually stopped for making an illegal turn the first time. I don't remember exactly what it was, if he turned right from the left lane, or if he turned right at Clinton and Washington (only busses are allowed to turn right at that intersection).

This is so wrong. He wasn't even drinking correct? How's a kid in college supposed to have money to fix his rocket? If they start giving him $5,000 a year then his machine should be expected to be in good order.
