Jok arrested again

Christ, we have one of the most hypocritical fan bases in the nation. This guy makes Iowa athletics look terrible, but half of you want him to get a free pass for some reason. Kick him off the team and get someone in there thay respects the program enough not to be a complete idiot. It's that simple. If this were an ISU player you would be calling for his head.

That's more than a little excessive.

Who called for ISU to kick Thomas off the team? I don't remember that happening.

I am a HUGE anti-drunk driving person...BUT the .082 thing was kind of a joke...I'm of the opinoin that .002 probably wouldn't have impaired him that much (and possibly may even be within the unit's margin of error?).

However, for Peter to #1...get on a moped again, when there are other options in town....and #2...not get the moped fixed if he was going to drive illegally...that takes a special kind of dumb.

Really will be surprised if he is with the team down the road, showing a SERIOUS lack of judgement. I know it was .082 but I still think Fran should have given him a one game suspension at the beginning of the year, just because DUI or OWI is a serious charge. I think sitting him for an exhibition or even early OOC game may have sent a message...hopefully Peter get's his head on straight!

That's more than a little excessive.

That is excessive...however if he has ANOTHER incident in the somewhat near future (next year or two). Then I think he has to go...some kids just won't learn...and letting them continue to be on the team will not teach them anything.

Iowa sophomore guard Peter Jok has been suspended indefinitely from all basketball-related activities, Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery said in a statement issued by the UI on Tuesday. Jok’s suspension comes after being arrested for the second time in three months Monday on charges of driving his moped with a revoked license.

Jok’s license was suspended following his first arrest last April on OWI charges. McCaffery’s statement comes after Iowa athletics director Gary Barta issued a statement Tuesday morning saying the incident would be further investigated.

“We support Peter, but we’re not happy with his recent pattern of behavior,â€￾ McCaffery said in the statement. “In the interim, Peter will continue to attend summer school classes, participate in community service projects, and take time to work on things internally, as outlined in accordance with the Student-Athlete Code of Conduct. We will monitor his progress and go from there.â€￾

To me that part of the quote is the kicker to the coaches and Barta. Because I'm sure after the arrest in April it was spelled out to him in black and white that he had to mind his Ps and Qs. To pretty much do the same thing again just minus the alcohol yet plus the revoked license is like your 4 year old looking you in the eye and throwing his spoon across the kitchen after you told him not to for the 2nd time at dinner. Coaches don't like being disobeyed anymore then anyone else in authority. If this would have been alcohol related as well I think he'd be gone. He's on really thin ice now and I hope for his sake he gets the right person putting his arm around him and giving him some tough love to the point he realizes what he has on the line. Time will tell.

It's idiotic is what it is. Sparky is on his high horse a bit here.

Right, because it's too much to expect after it happened once not to let it happen again.

Shame on the coaches for making rules and inforcing them and shame on the cops for not letting that .002 slide.

Nothing happened "again". Jok didn't get busted for a second OWI here. He should face stiff punishment, but not dismissal. There are tons of possible punishments between a free pass and kicking a guy off the team. The right answer for this situation lies somewhere in that middle ground.

Oh shoot. This isn't the second time he was arrested?

I didn't say anything about being his second OWI, did I?

I personally love Iowa being on the front page of multiple news outlets because of an arrest. It's great for the program.

He was stupid. That doesn't mean he deserves to get booted at this point.

Oh please it happens everywhere and nobodies fandom is threatened by it.

If he had a deferred judgment on the owi he's probably going to be in jail for a few days. If that doesn't scare him straight nothing will.

And you will be the first one calling for the coaches head when we stink because we ran off another good player over moped violations.

How many frustrated posters continually whine about not landing big time recruiting targets on this board? Well you want to know why this is prime example number 1. Extreme justice over petty stuff.

Violence against women, DUI/OWI with an actual vehicle, stealing, destruction of property, etc. I expect punishment but moped crime give me a break!

I think there must be more to the suspension that we know about. It sucks to potetially lose a player of Jok's calibre. My guess is he'll end up getting booted from the team ,then land on his feet at ISU and torch us for 3 seasons.

Na. I'll cheer for the guys who didn't break the law and cared enough about the team not to get kicked off.

That, and if you are unsmart enough to choose to drive the moped on that suspended license, at least fix the light and get a flag...Pete isn't looking too smart here.

If you call him "unsmart" is that nicer than calling him dumb:)? Because you are saying he is an idiot, either way, aren't you?

Hey, Jon, if I didn't annoy you too much with this post, reply to my text when you get a chance.

Just like you and the 1000 fans did during the end of the Licklighter era!

Yeah bring Lick back, at least his players didn't get in trouble! Oh wait, that Anthony Tucker fella went afoul of the law a time or two but his crimes weren't nearly as bad as driving a moped without a flag.

My gawd this must have been a slow crime day in Iowa City. Dumb on Jok's part? OK, because that's the culture in which that town operates, so he needs to know this better. Over-officious on the officer's part? Undoubtedly, but that's the parameters they've been given in which to operate. Give him a fix-it ticket and tell him to stay off the moped until he gets a license was the correct move. In my day, the IC cop would have put the moped (or its yesteryear equivalent) in the trunk and driven him home.

That must've been a looooong time ago. The ICPD has been over-zealous for years. They'll pull someone over downtown for driving 27 in a 25 MPH zone.
