Johnny Mullings

He's still on the team, I believe. But his delivery on his kicks is way too slow, gives the defense all day to get in to block it.

He will never see the field during a game for the Hawks.

I wouldn't say that. He has a couple of years to work on his speed, and if that doesn't work out, he could always work his way onto the field as a kickoff specialist. You can take your time as much as you want when you do that.

Being that he is on scholarship, if his (or Mossbrucker's for that matter) kickoff length was better than Meyers, he'd be out there.

It might not be at this point, but it could be in a year or two. I'm skeptical, but I'm trying to stay open-minded toward Mullings' chances long-term.

Mossbrucker may just be the biggest disappointment of the last few years. You would think that having him kick PATs and short FGs would allow Meyer to maintain leg strength though the season and get longer/deeper kickoffs. Instead, we are wasting TWO scholarships on specialists (Mossbrucker and Mullings) who can't crack the lineup, and one can't even get the invite to camp!

I still say Mossbrucker simply lost his mojo after Murray was called on to kick the game-winner against PSU. He was doing a great job for us up until then, and he's not been the same since.

He wasn't doing a "great" job, he was doing a "decent" job. And frankly, if he hasn't been able to get past that decision by the coaches, he shouldn't be out there. He obviously couldn't keep the job after Murray couldn't go in 2009.

13-15 is pretty damn good, especially as a freshman. I'm not saying he should be out there now, because he shouldn't be. But I do think he lost a lot of confidence when he wasn't called on (and that FG was within the range that we used him for all year), and he's not been the same since then. He's got the yips.

Living in Japan and working with quite a few Australians, I can't count the number of times I've been told American "gridiron" players are ******* because they were "body armor." And now that we finally have an Aussie on our team-and I think he is a former Rugby player or Aussie Rules player-he doesn't even get on the field...

Agreed. It mind-****ed him when he didn't get the call.

I don't think I've ever heard of a kicker losing leg strength throughout the year. They kick maybe 8-10 times during a game. They kick more than that on the sidelines warming up or before the game. Having someone else kick a few kickoffs isn't gonna help a leg any, methinks.

I'm guessing that the Punter recruit Kornbath??? will have a great chance at winning the job next year. perhaps Mossbrucker and Mullings decide to move on.

Not trying to bag on him, but didn't he miss the PAT in the Arizona game last year? That was the final straw with coaches I think.

Yes he did. IIRC, it was partially blocked. I may be wrong though because it was very late at that point and I had downed quite a few brews by then.

I thought Mossbrucker was better and was surprised Murray got the call vs. PSU

Look at the difference in Meyer's kickoff before and after he became "full-time" kicker. His early kickoff routinely went into the end zone. Now? Not so much.
