John Raymon to Iowa Western

Agreed, If we've got someone better to give the scholarship to, great. If not, then I hope the fact that he left doesn't keep us from extending the scholarship to him.

Um, IOWA not only "extended" a scholarship, IOWA GRANTED him a scholarship. HE chose to leave. IF the reason was ONE coach, position coach or not, you do NOT extend a scholly offer after said position coach has left. It sends the wrongest of wrong messages.

He could have requested a position change, he could have said it isn't working with this particular coach, he could have done a LOT of things. He COULD have stuck it for the WHOLE year (per terms of the scholly), gotten a FREE year of college...and then been happy when said position coach left. He CHOSE to LEAVE.

Extending a scholly now sends the signal that players dictate terms. That doesn't fly (and shouldn't) within ANY program.

Except he didn't know Coach K was going to be shown the door. If he really disliked Coach K that much, he should have left. His college choice is the biggest decision he will make in his life, and if he isn't somewhere he will be happy, then he's not going to get the most of his opportunity.

But...had he stuck it out for the year, this wouldn't be an issue. Kaz leaves, he has a new position coach, and has a chance to re-start the engine. He chose to leave before any of that happened.

If you are KF/staff, might you wonder about the NEXT thing that makes him decide to leave? Or do you go all-in on guys who have stayed and worked regardless of who the assistants/position coaches are?

I imagine if he calls the staff and asks to come back, there would be several conditions to be met. And all THAT is assuming Kaz was the principal reason he left in the first place. Does Reese Morgan have time, in his first year or two as DL coach, to coddle ONE guy?

Coach Kaz isn't the real issue at hand. Time to move past this guy. He's not coming back to Iowa unless something dramatically changes.
