John Bohnenkamp just talked to Steve Forbes

Is it protocol or professional courtesy to wait until the end of their season to officially contact coaches or assistants? (Bill Frieder doesn't count)

BARTA SERIOUSLY HASN'T CONTACTED HIM!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?! He better be negotiating a contract with Drew then.

The only way this makes sense is that we are still waiting to hear from Bruce. If Bruce has already told us no and we still havent at least talked to Forbes I'll be completely convinced Barta doesnt know what hes doing.

I think the more likely possibility is Barta knows what he is doing and you don't.

It's starting to look like Barta is either pulling off something much bigger and better, or he is completely and utterly dropping the ball on this hire.

No contact to Forbes or Barbee.. Yet we hear names like Jim Boylen and Wright State's coach... WTF.

Coaches with teams that are still in the postseason normally aren't going to want to be hassled by other colleges. I think Barta is smart enough to know this, and is forced to play the waiting game on those coaches... which is fine.

Well, I guess we will find out the answer to this in the next week or so. At this point, I have no clue what's going on, and maybe (hopefully) that's exactly the way Barta wants it.

I know it's a bit of a pipedream AND I may haved missed something but....I still don't think Pearl has come out and said "NO" has he? I don't recall hearing that he is definitely staying in Knoxville.

I agree Ghost.

Listen guys, just because someone says they weren't contacted by IOWA, doesn't mean they haven't been contacted by the search firm. IOWA can't contact him without first getting permission and they aren't going to do that while Tennessee is still in the tourney. I can almost guarantee you, though, that the search firm has contacted him. This way he can say "Iowa hasn't contacted me" and still not be lying.

I will bet you any amount of money that not only is he not negotiating with Drew but he hasn't contacted him either since Baylor IS STILL PLAYING.

It's professional courtesy to wait until a team's season is done before any contact is made even for assistants.

No he hasn't. I'll continue to carry that torch until that happens.

This.

If we hire some flavor of the month HC from a mid-major who really hasn't accomplished much other than maybe make the NCAA tournament once in their short career then I will explode! I'm talking atom bomb level explosion!

If history has proven anything at Iowa it's proven that we need a recruiter to get the program headed in the right direction. 90% of the outcomes today's basketball games are already determined before the ball is thrown up based on your talent level.

Screw the mid-major route. Either pay Drew what he wants, bite the bullet and hire Gillispie and let it play itself out, make Pearl the highest paid coach in the Big10 or get Forbes. Outside of those four options, I don't see us heading in a different direction and we should have saved the $2.4 million.

Those are my four options at this point.

And that's why you are not in charge.

The more I learn about Forbes, the more I think he'd be a great fit at Iowa. Great recruiter, Iowa would be his dream job, etc. Hope Barta knows what he is doing.
