I heard someone (Joe Thomas?) say that they just get sick of eating so much and it doesn't really take that much to lose the weight.I believe Marshall Yanda did something similar. Lost a ton of weight for health reasons.

I do as well. However, I'm seeing mock drafts that have him going late 1st/early 2nd round, so he'll get his.Did anyone else think Dunker got slighted a bit? Maybe it was just me. But happy they got the team award. Hopefully it will help with recruiting even more.
I don't know...I kind of like the idea of taking an OL with 3 All-Americans, and then adding another 1st team AA at our weakest position along that line (no offense to Lauck, he was plenty good in his own right and will be a future NFLer).
Culture eats strategy for breakfast, and all that, but strong culture can also take a talented square peg and figure out how to make it round. I am sure the right $ amount could have gotten him to stay, and he would have eventually found his footing here. Fun to think about the "what ifs", but alas, it was not meant to be.

Yeah I heard Yanda talk about that in an interview or podcast one time after the pics of him slimmed down started getting circulated around social media. He said the number of calories you have to eat in a day to stay at NFL size is unreal. If I remember right to maintain his size he said he had to average like 9,000 calories a day. That would be insane to do for one day, let alone for like 10 months out of the year every day. I don't remember his exact wording but he said eating was a chore and he hated it.I believe Marshall Yanda did something similar. Lost a ton of weight for health reasons.

What I meant by dodging a bullet more then anything is say had he came and got entrenched it wouldn't have surprised me if a yr in or 2 he'd have left for more money or whatever. Easier to have lost what we never really had as opposed to having had him in the lineup and then lose him.I don't know...I kind of like the idea of taking an OL with 3 All-Americans, and then adding another 1st team AA at our weakest position along that line (no offense to Lauck, he was plenty good in his own right and will be a future NFLer).

I read somewhere how much Wirfs eats to maintain and yeah, insane amount of calories to maintain weight and etc. Granted we are talking about an NFL lineman. Similar to you, big meals make me feel horrible.Yeah I heard Yanda talk about that in an interview or podcast one time after the pics of him slimmed down started getting circulated around social media. I don't eat breakfast and my lunch during the week is pretty small. Once in a while it's leftovers but generally it's a chicken breast, a couple of skinless brats, or a burger patty all with no bun or bread. And then some steamed/microwaved cauliflower or broccoli because I like both of them. Supper generally isn't very big either. On the weekends if I have lunch and a big supper I feel like shit. I can't imagine having to eat 4-5 big meals a day. I'd puke, but I'm also not Marshall Yanda.
Oh and btw, Marshall Yanda has the biggest freakin hands I've ever seen in person. Met him a few years back when he was the ANF guest player before a game. I swear to god it looks like that dude could touch his fingertips around a basketball.

Their OL is absolutely massive.Heckuva honor. Lots of OLines start out the season aiming to win the Joe Moore award. Having seen all 3 of the OLine finalists in-person at Kinnick this season, I probably would have given the edge to Oregon. But from a purely technique standpoint, hard to argue with the Iowa choice.

If Yanda is not a first Ballot HOFer then something is wrong. He was the best at his position for nearly a decade. Sherf may be close as well but he missed a lot of time for some injuries. I believe at one time he was the highest paid lineman when he was with Washington.I read somewhere how much Wirfs eats to maintain and yeah, insane amount of calories to maintain weight and etc. Granted we are talking about an NFL lineman. Yanda was a beast in the NFL and during his time at Iowa. An 8 time Pro Bowler. I think KF or someone mentioned he played with this "mean streak" and would punish people he blocked. Loved watching his physicality.
I sat down in the section near where they came out, and no joke, GIANTS! I do like how the Joe Moore Award is for a group/unit. I still think our guys were deserving. But one could argue Indiana or Oregon were deserving as well. I do know our team overall was the second least penalized team overall (only Army was better) and I think that has a lot to do with technique and discipline.Their OL is absolutely massive.

No replacement for displacement.
Once those guys deflate like that there's no changing their mind and going back like what Rivers is doing. It's a lot easier for some of those guys then others to get big and stay big.Yeah I heard Yanda talk about that in an interview or podcast one time after the pics of him slimmed down started getting circulated around social media. My fam got the chance to tour the football complex years ago. This was the Beathard years because we saw him coming in when we were leaving. I could swear the person taking us around said some players are eating up in the range of 15,000 - 18,000 cals a day. One example was in camp after a practice they'd have the players scarf down two Panchero burritos as a snack, then later that night would have steak dinners. Also said during camp they'd have position coaches sitting and watching players in their hotel rooms scarf down entire large pizzas to make sure they are eating them. Wild.Yeah I heard Yanda talk about that in an interview or podcast one time after the pics of him slimmed down started getting circulated around social media. It must suck being Little Brother.Side bar: I visit Twitter/X occasionally, usually when prompted by a friend. (it's a cesspool).
If you ever had any doubt how obsessed ISU fans are with the Hawks you should see some of the responses to The Moore Award. Posting shorts of an ISU lineman getting past an Iowa blocker like some kind of huge "gotcha". You can't make this stuff up.
Obviously, hindsight being what it is of the 9 losses the last two years…I can’t think of one them where having Proctor over Richman/Lauck would have made a difference.
