Joe Moore Award - Why Iowa Won in 2016

The Joe Moore award is a relatively new award since 2015. Alabama got the award in 2015 with Iowa placing 2nd. Iowa received 1st place in 2016 with Alabama placing 2nd. I read up about the award and really like it even more as it embodies the teamwork aspect of an entire unit.

At first, I was going to start a thread asking if Iowa deserved the award in 2016 with the knowledge that they struggled a bit with pass protection. But then I read up on the award a bit and noticed that they fit all or most the criteria for the award with much emphasis placed on physicality and teamwork/consistency. It actually is a very nice award and I think it will gain a lot of notoriety over the years to those team units that win it. I think Iowa can be in the running most years which is nice and saying something.

I understand I'm probably in the minority here, but it seems rather obvious that it was a lil stepping stool for Brian. That being said, I'm excited to see Brian's offense. So there.

After reading that explanation in the link provided, I feel more confused now than before why Iowa won.

Well, individually Iowa OL weren't that great, and the offense as a whole was not very good, but they really worked together as a team to produce not so great results. Huh?

Joe Moore was KF's self-identified mentor. KF is one of the most well-respected Oline minds in the game of football. Put those two together and it's not hard to see why Iowa won that award. Not that the Oline was dogcrap by any stretch. In the run game, they can maul the shit out of an opponent better than just about any team out there. But by any measure of overall Oline play, Iowa came up short.

Cool to win the award, but like a lot of awards (sports, entertainment, etc)...it's not always given on merit, but is sometimes given as a quasi "lifetime achievement award".

Iowa had 2 RBs over 1000 yards... If the passing game would have been worth 2 cents that'd have only made them look even better. I saw on the BTN how they just were hammering how bad the offense was overall like 12th in the BIG and 112th or something overall.... It's just crazy to think that with a better then respectable running game and no passing game your offense can be that bad overall but it was. Just think how much better the running game could have been if the passing game was respectable... Iowa had a lot of 2 yard and less runs that might have been more...

Iowa best exemplified team work last year, and for that, they gave them the award. Lots of different line ups last year.

It certainly was not pass rush blocking.
