Jim Tressel perspective

Right here bud. OSU insiders are describing this report as a "gift". The NCAA investigation turned up nothing new of note which ensures Tressel's job is safe. Probably have to vacate 2010 but anything scholarship related or post season bans are very unlikely. No lack of institutional control....this could't have went better considering the situation. August 12th will be the day of reckoning. HawkeyeMike u have been way off regarding Tressel the entire time. You really have no read on this situation at all.

Hey fufu, better shoot off an email to Stewart Mandel and the boys at SI because apparently they have a bad read on the situation too. Let them see the OSU Insider light, and the fact that everything will be OK.

Jim Tressel's Ohio State tenure all but over after NCAA allegations - Stewart Mandel - SI.com

Steward Mandel and other sports writers are bad sources, they always overhype things to get web hits and sell papers/mags. National writers are the last people I would listen to, always assuming the worst. OSU has had this report since Friday and held a parents meeting with the families of the players on Saturday, and Tressel isn't going anywhere. If this report would have included some other types of violations then the result may have been different....

Robert Smith isn't very connected to OSU or this staff at all. He lives in Florida and is just like any other talking head on TV. I'll take what the OSU AD told players parents Saturday over Robert's speculation 10 times outta 10.

Sure...the vest and Gene Smith are up front, honest guys...right?

Seems to me, To$u fans are thinking this is some sort of joke, like they are untouchable. I used to have a ton of respect for the vest, but after all of this crap went down, he is on the same page as the SEC slime balls.

I tend to side with fufu on this one. Did you guys not see that press conference? It was pretty clear who is in charge of that school. And Tress isn't going to fire himself.

O$U will take their penalties. And most likely it will be another slap on the wrist.

This is the only reasonable explaination, especially considering that Urban Meyer is just sitting around wringing has hands waiting for the phone to ring.

It is NOT going to be a slap on the wrist. The way programs survive this type of situation with the NCAA is they fire their coach. Keeping the vest will be a precedent setting event. The NCAA is NOT going to want that kind of precedent to pass lightly. Although they don't have teeth with respect to investigations, they do have teeth with respect to punishing those who lie to them.

Google, USC, McNair, and Bush if you want an example. The vest might keep his job, but the team is going to lose post-season and scholarships if he does.

Watch UM take full advantage.

I'm not saying you are wrong. I just need to see it to believe it.

I am anxious to hear Fufu tell us why Herbstreit's opinion isn't valid as well though.

I have a feeling his response will be:
1. He's not an OSU insider
2. He doesn't even live in Ohio anymore
3. He wasn't in the room this weekend when OSU's AD gave his magical speech about how every thing will be fine.

Why will PAC 10 and BIG 10 schools get caught but SEC schools get nothing.

The penalties leavied against USC and soon OSU will do nothing to deter future offenders.

I honestly feel bad for OSU here- the players traded on their own fame, may have sold stuff that belonged to them and SEC schools routinely end up cutting 10-12 players a season if the borderline academic cases manage to find someone to take the SAT for them.

Did Tressel do the right thing? Hell no, but should he lose his job because 5 of his players got free tattoos? OSU should keep him and tell the NCAA to stick it up their a$$. I love Herbie but I think he is dead wrong here. I have lost respect for Tressel but I don't think Pearl should have lost his job and don't think Tressel will lose his.

No...he should lose his job because he lied to investigators and hid the truth.

He used players he knew would be ineligible if he did the moral and ethical thing and turned them in. He didn't turn the violation in to the NCAA because he knew the accused players were needed to make a run at the national title. Both him and Pearl will lose their jobs for lying to the NCAA, not for the actual offense, but in my opinion what Tressel did was much, much worse than what Pearl did.
