Jim Tressel perspective

I am watching the OSU spring game on BTN right now and I do not think I'll ever be able to look at Tressel again without seeing a weasel.

A tongue-in-cheek comment I heard today was Tressel was petitioning the NCAA to allow the spring game to count as one of his five-game suspension games.

It's funny I saw one poster on another site compare him to Urban Meyer.

Let's see. JT gets Youngstown State and O$U in hot water.

Urban Meyer: Bowling Green - Utah - Florida. He doesn't seem to turn his employer's into an NCAA magnet.

JT plays fast and loose with rules and ethics while simultaneously writing books filled with life lessons on morality.

I think your lives will be easier once you accept the fact that college sports are dirty and it's a part of life.

I always had a lot of respect for Tressel. Respectful, well spoken, a legit teacher, not to mention that he's obviously a very good coach who excelled at changing offensive schemes to fit his talent. OSU has been run oriented, pro style, and spread depending on their players' talents and lack there of.

However this particular situation is extremely shady at best. He's lucky OSU needs him so badly.

SEC-Lite or wannabe. Not near as good at cheating or at FB as an SEC school.
Agreed, but only because he's not near as good at the "cover-up". Once he master's that he'll be ready for an SEC job.

Of course he'll be too old by then.

Right here bud. OSU insiders are describing this report as a "gift". The NCAA investigation turned up nothing new of note which ensures Tressel's job is safe. Probably have to vacate 2010 but anything scholarship related or post season bans are very unlikely. No lack of institutional control....this could't have went better considering the situation. August 12th will be the day of reckoning. HawkeyeMike u have been way off regarding Tressel the entire time. You really have no read on this situation at all.

OSU is an SEC school that somehow got into the Big Ten.
Disagree, they are a Big Ten team that got too big for their britches and thought the only way to succeed was to become an SEC cheater. They didn't need it. They should have stayed the course and would have been fine.

Fred IF this is true the NCAA might as well throw the rule book in the fire and forget the whole rules thing completely because JT eff'd up on a very high level and either payoffs or personal politics will have interfered with the rules.

The no lack of institutional control finding will have no impact on saving Tressel's job.

It was reported that Jim Tressel, head football coach, failed to deport himself in accordance with the honesty and integrity normally associated with the conduct and administration of intercollegiate athletics and violated ethical-conduct legislation," the 13-page NCAA document says.

Lying to the NCAA, He Gone.

Also, the NCAA could consider them a two-time offender, thanks to Tressel's lying the first time around. And that's when you get into postseason bans and loss of scholarships.

But no lack of institutional control? The institution tried to COVER IT ALL UP!!! How can you possibly have less control than that?

They will be considered a two time offender but not for his lying the first time around, from the ESPN article.

The report also cites previous violations involving former quarterback Troy Smith, who received $500 from a booster and former men's basketball coach Jim O'Brien, who gave $6,000 to a recruit.
NCAA rules state second-time violators face postseason levies, coaching-staff suspensions and a loss of scholarships.

Couple more items. Read about halfway down the thread in the first link and they outline what players received (they did not release specific player names).

It could also hurt OSU that they will be considered a repeat offender because of the Obrien basketball scandal.

I'm starting to think Tressel could have murdered someone to cover this up and he'd probably squirm his way out of it.
