Norm Parker, take note, the Jets showed how to beat the Patriots' spread offense.

Man on man. Press coverage. Coverage over the top.

So Iowa should get some of those recruits to play for Iowa.. but then, Iowa would have to play man coverage...

Revis is the best corner to enter the league in years. Players like him HARDLY grow on trees. Cromartie is an inconsistent player when asked to play zone, but EXCELS when allowed to play press coverage man-to-man. When he play press, he's arguably the 2nd best corner in the NFL (behind Revis).

Yeah, Iowa should just get a pair of guys like that. Newsflash: this isn't NCAA Football 11 or Madden. You don't get to have fantasy teams, which is what you keep talking about.

OH MAN! Why didn't the coaches think of that. I mean it's right there in front of you. How could they have not thought of that?!

Cromartie also will not tackle anyone if you run right at him.........ask Shonn Greene...lol. The guy is a chicken **** when it comes to tackling anyone of any size.

Cromartie is overrated IMO. He's probably a top 15 DB in the NFL and will shut down guys with straight line speed (randy moss) but if you put him up against a route runner he'll get smoked

QB in 'gun <> spread offense.
Basically what the jets showed was how mortal this Pats team is when they (Pats) aren't forcing turnovers.
The Pats forced a lot of TO's this year and had very few of their own.
The Jets also have a damn good D with corners to match.

Revis had a few incidents in the game where he shied away from contact also. On the second on-side kick, he backed away from the ball and also the guy trying to block him.

This defense also only works against a spread offense where the qb is not a threat to run. Teams don't play much man coverage against a qb like Denard Robinson or Cam Newton because the db's don't want to turn their backs and run with receivers if the qb might beat the d-line to the corner and go for a big gain.

Patriots no longer has anyone that can stretch the field so you can afford to gamble and play press coverage.

FWIW, the Giants from the Super Bowl 3 years ago actually put the blueprint out there on how to beat the Pats.

Which is precisely why he struggles in zone and loose man coverage, but excels in press-man coverage.

See: Northwestern

Jeeze, really guys? You don't get this?

Iowa doesn't need CBs with the exact skills as Revis to stop the passing spread offense, Iowa needs CBs with some skills to defend man to man at least for 10-15 yards.

I mean, Jeeze, we're talking about Northwestern, Purdue, and Missouri not the Patriots - and not Randy Moss.

BTW, the Patriots play a system on offense. Their athlete is Brady. His arm and his brain.

Which is why, as long as Norm Parker is DC, Iowa will always win or lose a very close game against any spread passing opponent no matter what the opponent's record is.

Come on, brah.....You honestly think its the same type of spread offense? You really think Brady is getting his key from the defensive end based upon whether he crashes down or not? We are talking apples and oranges here.

Those in-game adjustments yesterday could have been made if Randy Moss or whoever were there to stretch the field.

Trust me, if Fitzgerald could get guys to Northwestern that can get vertical and make people miss in space they would be there.

The Jets didn't play only one kind of defense to win the game. I've heard a lot of people say that they played a variety of defenses out of a number of different looks. Mike Lombardi of NFL Weekly on Showtime said it appeared as if they played a match up zone like some teams play in basketball.
But it's not just about coverage. The Jets did a pretty fine job of putting pressure on Brady while only rushing 3-4 guys on most plays. I believe this was more important than anything. Great defense isn't a secret. Win the battle up front decisively and you will stop pretty much anything.

Ah Jeeze, the sacks the Jets got on Brady, they're called coverage sacks. No one's open right away and also after 3-4 seconds.

A coverage sack is very rare at Iowa.

If you think the Patriots run a college spread offense you don't know football. Unlike the college spread, the Jets did not have to defend Brady running the ball.

If the Jets had to defend Denard Robinson, their defense would be entirely different. If you take one option out of the equation everything changes.
