That is awesome, thanks for sharing those thoughts. In 1990 I moved from Iowa out to the South Salt Lake area around 4500 South on the East side of the interstate. Met my wife there and we were married shortly after.Yeah I did a lot of running around SL as a kid growing up. Back before that water park was there it was just a regular public swimming pool. It was pretty large and popular where my bro and extended family all took swimming lessons at. My aunt used to teach lessons both there and at the colleges indoor pool which was in the same building the basketball arena is in. It was called Siebens Fieldhouse with the pool being called Finkbine way back then I'd imagine it's still that or maybe they've since changed it I have no idea.
As kids we were able to sneak in there with our balls and play on the court. Security was extremely lax to say the least back in the 90s.. No locked doors just turn the lights on. Nobody ever called us out for it either. I bet my cousins, brother and I played in there 50 times over 4 or 5 summers who knows. Great memories it was fun
I remember driving over into the area a little further south where the old prison used to be. I was working for a printer at the time and actually had to make a few delivery's to the prison. That was an interesting experience as they always searched inside and underneath of my delivery van upon coming in and upon leaving the prison. More so leaving to be sure I wasn't taking a few extra cyclone fans with me. Lol, gotta get a jab in there when ever you can.
We moved back to Iowa two years later. The over all pay in Utah at the time was very, very, poor. Seams strange to be back out here again. Wow have things changed. There are many tech jobs out here now and the Californian's are moving in rapidly. The area where will live is referred to as Silicone Slopes. I remember home's back in the 90's being expensive at $75 to $90K. That price today will get you into a crack house now. Lol.
I do feel much safer here in Utah over living in the state of Georgia. You know simple things like home invasions where they hold your families hostage in your home while another person takes you to your bank for cash withdraws. Usually they were kind enough not to kill you and your family when you got back.
I worked late nights in extremely dangerous neighborhoods for Uncle Sam in Atlanta. Once in awhile you see people who have been shot after or during car jacking attempts or drug deals that have gone bad. I don't miss that crap. We lived there for nearly twenty years before moving to Utah eight years ago. Job transfer.
Once in a while I see a person run a red light or a stop sign out here in Utah.......... lol.
