Jeff Horner Responds

I still believe Fran handled it very poorly after the game and as a result created even more drama that didn't need to be there. Fran apologized the day after letting what he did sink in.

Anyone watch the Duke game last night. Things got very heated and at the end of the game coaches and players acted professional and everyone went home sad or happy. :).. I wonder if the camera man panned in to catch any drama at the end.. That's what they hired to do. wink wink.. ;):p:p

I didn't catch BIG 10 live after the game or yesterday. Anybody know what they commented about it. I suspect they probably talked about it a bit at the beginning which is when I missed.

It was pretty mild, mostly because the Rutgers thing was such a huge story that night.

I appreciate the strategic explanation. Look, it's kind of different for these lower rated teams coming in and playing the p5 guys. They're all amped up and want to put on a good show to the end. I wish they would have just let the clock run out but I completely understand they were living in the moment & playing hard. It was just messed up on both sides but I think all respect each other which is the important thing. All apologized.

I saw the BTN guy from PSU talk about it and thought that was interesting. He brought into context what happened in NDs previous game and how they'd had 2 players get 2 Technicals each and kicked out plus the benches somewhat left their areas to talk trash during a real chippy game. So with that back drop of info and Fran having scouted that had prepared our guys. Other than Jordan doing what he did Iowa's kids never responded to their dirty play. When it got chippy in the 2nd half as Horner even mentioned things were going down a path where it possibly could have gotten ugly and the ending being what it was ended up being Frans final straw. The national media does such a piss poor job (PTI and Wilbon) and can go to hell with their knee jerk reactions. They just half ass everything they do. Unless it's Duke they'll talk about how great coach K is and talk about every angle there is of his kid kicking guys for the 3rd time. I saw he finally suspended that Allen kid.. Think about if Iowa had a kid doing that and what they'd be saying about Fran and the program... What Woody was doing with his eye poking was flukey incidental and completely an accident. What Allens done is 100% intentional every time.

For all you "Fran handled it wrong" guys: you'd a been the first ones complaining when guys got up in each others faces and pushing when the chippiness carried over to the handshake line. "Oh, Fran shoulda known that would happen and avoided the handshake."

Fran handled it exactly right. He didn't get any T's, he didn't slam any chairs, and he didn't throw anyone under the bus. He apologized the next day. He handled it exactly right. UND coaches and players are the ones who handled it wrong.

Could someone show me all the college basketball fights that broke out in the handshake line.

I don't think that would have happened. Very well said by Horner though

Here's one (see below). This happened last year.

This one didn't quite make it to the handshake line at end of the game.

So now take that 1 hand shake example into the 11,000 to 12,000 games played at the D1 College Baskeball Level in a year. How many have occurred in the history of the Iowa Program?

You're trying too hard.

No I'm not it's stupid talk to think Iowa and ND were going to brawl at the end of that game. I watched the ending and seen it many many times through other networks. It wasn't happening.. You had many Iowa players about to shake hands at the end with the ND/ Coaches that were all lined up but were told to leave the court. If Fran feared that something was about to boil over he would of stayed on the court until all his players exited..

#13 from cincy is a punk. He kicks Freese in the head when falls down. Can't stand punks like that. I've always liked Jeff Hoerner, but he is in denial about his teams actions. There is a difference in 'playing hard' to the end and being chippy and trash talking. Neither one describes 'playing hard'............

Grayson Allen is a punk as well. Dirty and has Anger Issues, that's a very bad combo. Part of his suspension should be to go to counselling..

As for your Horner comment I agree with that.. Chippy and Trash Talking has nothing to do with playing hard.

In North Dakota's previous game vs NDSU, two of their players were ejected with very little time left on the clock. That may have been something that came into play as well.

Tempers flared at the end of the game as there was pushing and shoving under the UND basket with 18.4 seconds remaining after UND's Quinton Hooker drove to the basket.

UND's Drick Bernstine was called for a foul before officials went to the video monitor to review the pushing and shoving.

After a lengthy review at the monitor by officials, Bernstine and Geno Crandall were ejected. NDSU's Khy Kabellis also was ejected.

The teams played out the final 18.4 seconds without any more incidents.

Anger management 101...learn to walk away. +Fran

Aggressively grabbing a ball with 3 seconds left with a 16 lead...and then trying to get it to count...total bush. Explanation?

Dirty players...losers...gone...end.
