Jarrod Uthoff - How do you rate him to date?

Solid B+ so far. He's a tough matchup due to his size and quickness and if he develops a consistent outside shot look out. Defensively he is obviously lacking some bulk but he also blocks a ton of shots so I think overall his D is really not that bad. It's kind of nice to have a guy with that length guard a 3 point shooter and get a hand in their face.

I put minimal stock in the the "first year of playing DI basketball" for 2 reasons. 1) We are 21 games into this season. 2) he has practiced with and against DI talent for 2 season prior to this season. His learning curve should be shorter than an incoming freshman.

My opinion, he just needs to get tougher.

I'd give him a B+/A- for the non-conference. He's been a C/C- in the conference season. B-/C+ overall, to this point. His on ball defense isn't awful, but he gets out of position quite a bit when we're in zone.

For my expectations coming into this season, I'd rate him a B. This is roughly what I expected. He's going to be rusty when he hasn't played college ball yet.

The reason he isn't an A, is because he doesn't look like he did any lifting in his year off. How can you still be that skinny and weak when all you had to do for a year was lift?

I still think he's our most skilled player next year. He's a guy you can go to when you need a bucket.

How do I rate him to date? Well, he's a guy so.............. plus I'm married.

Couldn't pass that up.
He isn't the kind of kid who is gonna bulk up a lot. Very lean and is likely to stay that way. He's still adjusting to the college game. He's about what I thought he would be. Better off the dribble, a little worse defensively. I'd give him a C.

I think some of the previous posters are under estimating his offensive production so far this year ...

Avg 8.9 points per game (3rd on the team) and shooting 53.4% from the field (4th on the team) and 50% from 3 (2nd on the team). Also shooting 79% from the line (3rd on the team). Not bad for a new guy to the system coming off the bench. I believe he is still 1st in the B1G for scoring average off the bench even though he has not been scoring much the last four games.

He scored well in the non-conference. But he's only averaging 5.8 boards per game in conference play, and 3.3 boards per game. He's also shooting 62.5% from the line, way down from high-80s mark he had earlier in the year. He's still shooting 47% from the floor, which is still solid. But he's only taken 5 three-point attempts since the start of conference play.

True, but his first 4 B1G games were not that bad … he had 34 points over those 4 games and played 83 minutes. That's not bad production. His last 4 games he's only had a total of 12 points but only logged 58 minutes … everyone has a slump once in awhile.

He has some talent, but very weak hands and upper body. I like his shot blocking ability and he hits the boards well by getting good position. His defense is so-so, and he has a lot to learn.

He has been very tentative in most of the Big Ten games. He actually looks scared at times. The fast moving play in the conference may be getting to him a little bit. He's been missing some FTs lately after hitting about 90 percent in non-conference games.

I would like to see him take more 3-point shots because he's hitting 50% of them.

I would say a B. Shows flashes. When playing against brawling teams like MSU, can't do anything.
This will improve over time.

He looks about as I expected - flashes of brilliance, followed by periods of drought. Given time/experience, I see no reason to expect he won't be an impact player for us before his time is done.
