Jamie Pollard = Big Ego

Arguably the best coach ISU has ever had has never beaten Iowa. I've said before this is going to be a dogfight game in L'Ames, but I honestly think we are going to beat them with a stellar defense. Great defense travels well.

Your statement above is way premature and Earle Bruce and Johnny Majors say hello to their overall coaching records. Even Clay Stapleton built some good teams prior to Majors and Majors built up to a very good team in '72. Earle Bruce had a very good run for coaching at ISU and then later at OSU.

WOTC, I thought you were old enough to not go into this Big 12 nonsense for ISU and Campbell's sake. The old Big 8 was a pretty strong conference back in the late 60s and through the '70s. Some great Nebby and OU teams, Kansas and K-state had some strong teams, Missouri was real good and enabled Dan Devine to jump to Notre Dame.

Campbell coaches in a league that does not know how to play defense, their league has a pretty good but not stellar OOC and bowl game record. But it is still OU's league to win or lose each year and it doesnt have the top to bottom depth of good teams like the Big 10.

I still find it hilarious that Campbell is 27-24 at Iowa State with 1 bowl win and he's already been anointed the greatest head coach in program history.

The fact that Pollard says they are the best team in the state of Iowa now after they've lost 4 straight games to Iowa proves how ignorant he truly is.

That is what I was thinking. Also, one may want to win a conference c-ship at least once or even play in a bowl game after Dec. 30th before proclaiming they are the best. Either has ever happened for them.

Also, an easy comparison of players in the NFL the last 10 years could be telling.

To me, they are still in the "poking the bear" phase.

Yep. Jamie used the "poke the bear" analogy to "poke the bear". He knows.

Why? He is. :)

Have you read the title of this thread? Poking the bear with a "poking the bear" line seems to have worked quite effectively with many here.
Not even two full pages of responses and the ones that aren’t laughing are as tepid as a sleeping bear lazily swatting at a fly swirling around its eyes.

4 in a row in football
2 of 3 in men's basketball
14 straight in wrestling
3 straight in women's basketball
We have a baseball team
Beat them in VB this year

I will admit that I'm cherry-picking a bit, because I didn't look to see how our pottery team or quilting teams did against them. They may be dominating us in both of those.

Pollard = Baghdad Bob

"The glorious Iraqi forces are throwing the American infidels out of Iraq".

"Now we've become the bear".

ISU is the bear? LOL. If Iowa announced it was cancelling its football contract with ISU, our fans would be fine with it. ISU fans would petition the legislature to pass a law mandating the game. They have no identity except being the other DI school in Iowa. Joke.

We need to worry about Wisconsin; Northwestern; Nebraska; Purdue; Minnesota; etc. etc.

Iowa State is about as important as the Miami of Ohio game.

It is a non-conference game. It simply does not matter. It's fun when we beat them and it stings a little when we lose, but by the following Monday, that game is forgotten.

Iowa's seasons are always defined by how they do in the conference and in the post-season. That will never change.

Campbell doesn't need to beat Iowa to be successful at Iowa State, but their goofy fans can't seem to figure that out; and Ferentz certainly doesn't need to defeat Iowa State to have a great season. Ferentz CANNOT have a great season if he doesn't win most or all of the games against the division rivals, something he has not done since 2015.
