James Morris Getting Major Props From Best Coach in Football

With all of the guys Iowa has in the NFL, and the praise the coaching staff seems to get for preparing kids for the NFL, I'm not sure why we A. can't land better recruiting classes and B. we can't take all of this NFL talent and turn it into more wins on the football field.
Maybe the answer to both is that although we do well at certain positions, we just can't get skill guys or put many of them in the NFL. In this day in age, skill guys matter more than they ever have before.

Hitchens, Kirksey and Morris - all on (or soon to be on) NFL rosters (2 starting). That's got to be worth a couple of stud LB recruits, right?

You would think so...but instead, 3 of our top 4 linebackers were walkons with no other offers. That is simply unacceptable at ANY level of football, even UNI. Talk about a serious recruiting blunder over the course of 3 straight years.

I think with their new facility, they need to start aiming higher. There's no need to act like a developmental program - not to be unrealistic in their approach, but there's no reason be so self-limiting, either. What's past is past, can't do anything about that, but they can certainly conduct themselves with a big time attitude going forward. They got the goods now - use it.

Hitchens was a 2 star, Morris and Kirksey were 3 stars. In hindsight, could you say that they turned into stud recruits? Our LB recruits over the last 3 years appear to be at similar rankings to this trio. Maybe some of them will end up being as successful as their predecessors.

Just something to think about.

OTOH, it would be nice to reel in some bigger fish.

I gotta give you credit. You are relentless.

Iowa just landed a huge recruit out of Omaha. Any comment, Mr. negative?

Ahem. Not only but all three lost their eligibility the same season. IMO, there's a coaching mistake.

When you have three good LB's with 2-3 yrs left- it is hard to get someone to come at that position. Leaves us with a void when they leave
