James Daniels impressing Bears

It's about time the Bears figured out that Iowa lineman are NFL ready. The Packers figured this out a long time ago ... Bear's management has been inept for years. This coming from a life-long Bear fan.

Bears mgmt through the Halas family has also been cheap and inept in keeping their top stars over the years. When you have an all-pro but dont want to resign them because of money then that all-pro is going somewhere else and will beat you, see the Wilbur Marshall episode.

It feels like the Bears might be getting things going the right direction. I wasn't exactly sold on how they gave up what they did to get their QB but now that they have him if he can develop and start building around him with guys like Daniels who knows... Can't expect too much from them with the Viks and Packers being as good as they are but in a couple years we'll see..

You are more optimistic than I am regarding the Bears Management. As long as Virginia McCaskey and family are the principal owner I don't hold out much hope. She's now 95 so change there may come soon. Hopefully the family sells the team to someone like the Ricketts who turned the Cubs around big time.

I'm a 49er fan not even a Bears fan. Just outside looking in on them. I just know Rogers won't stay at that level forever and yeah the Viks are pretty darn good now but I've never been a fan of Cousins. I think the Viks rocked a boat they didn't need to as far as breaking the bank to get him. Good luck resigning Diggs down the road or some of their other talented players now that they did what they did. The smart teams are the ones with cheap and or young QBs that overachieve and play well. Salary cap wise it's how you can put a better roster together. You splurge on em like the 49ers just did with Jimmy G and it'll just be interesting to see how they do.... But your Bears having Trubisky on his rookie contract and being pretty cheap allows them flexibility with the rest of the roster so they should have hope in a couple years anyway

Agree with the spending philosophy, especially in football because the careers can be so short. Look no further than Theo Epstein to see how he did it with the Cubs. Made great draft choices (Baez, Bryant, Almora, Schwarber, Contreras) and a couple key trades (Rizzo, Russell, Hendricks) to keep them with enough payroll to sign a few free agents (Lester, Zobrist, and maybe even Hayward now).
