It's officially official--Walk BMC is coming to Iowa

He's more than made up for that IMO, playing 3 great seasons for the team, and now can go and get life changing money for a family that is facing a lot of financial hardships. He's going for the biggest bag from what I understand.
You know the nitty on that side of the BIG better than most of us. Got no beef with any of that, except ... Wanna see him finish as a Hawk.

For multiple reasons I have a difficult time being excited for the coaching change. I think the major issue is dealing with the competitive disadvantages the new coach has compared to his peers. As a fan I want the best, as a realist I know what an uphill battle he has ahead.

I knew that things couldn't continue as they were and the new direction college sports has taken required a different mind set than Fran's. I won't miss Fran's substitution blunders and his occasional wierd behavior. Nor will I miss the porous defense played by scrawny underclassmen.

I do hope Ben McCollom can bring the fan base back to the arena with a fundamentally strong team.
I understand the competitive disadvantages we're going to experience and I agree that there is room for concern, but at the same time weren't we also under a competitive disadvantage with Fran at the helm where we ignored the importance of defense and rebounding to play a style in which we simply tried to win games by outscoring our opponents?

I think under McCollom were going to be a well rounded team that will improve drastically in defense and rebounding while falling off a bit points scored per game, but I think the offense may be just as efficient. I don't think that competitive disadvantage will be that big of a thorn in our sides, because honestly it's been there for quite awhile.

Now that Dix and Pryce have officially found new basketball homes and coach McCollum has brought in a bunch of Drake players, it's time to see how well he's able to recruit to the Iowa program. Money is going to be his biggest challenge, as that's mostly why we lost the best guys we had. Hopefully we'll see a few new guys start trickling in over the next week, because the panic around here will only amplify the longer it takes. We all know how crazy everyone was getting before Ben was officially hired.

I'm ready to move on from these ex-Hawks that have left the fold.

It's about time for BM to finalize his staff and start bringing in some guys from places other than Drake to fill out the roster. We all see guys entering portal left and right, they can't all be a money grab and some of them ought to be good ballplayers that fit into the new style.

Let's get on with it.

I'm good with where the roster stands:
Stirtz
Koch
Howard
Manyawu
Combs

Ben has his work cut out for him teaching any of Fran's former players how to play defense........... of course that is what benches are for right???

That's what I licked about Lute O, you don't play defense you don't play.
Well the good news is Ben doesn't really have to coach any former Fran players.

Well the good news is Ben doesn't really have to coach any former Fran players.
The other good news is that all the players coming over from Drake will all know they will be expected to work their asses off on defense and apparently, they are all alright with that.

Those who have ever played with the glory boys know those assholes for the most part want to focus their energy on playing offense. Maybe that's why so many of them liked Fran.

I think I heard somewhere that each school can have 15 scholarships players on the team. So, Ben and his assistants have a lot of work ahead of them.

So where are we at right now, 5 players??
