I watched an Iowa coach make the requisite moves to win the game. Switching between man and zone...sometimes switching within a possession, made the difference. That, along with a minor tweak that I thought was genius: having Cartwright move to the wing at times during the 2nd half. This move allowed the first pass and to get movement and into the offense, as UNI was really pressuring the wings, but with Cartwright's quickness, he could come off screens and still get open...brilliant, subtle coaching move.

These adjustments may not make a difference against a MSU or Illinois, but it is just good to see a coach, regardless of sport, make the timely adjustments in-game to win.

It is nice to again see in-game adjustments, to see Iowa teams try to penetrate, to see Iowa play tough on the glass, to press on defense and try to push the ball on offense.

Cole was all over the glass (and the floor) last night. Fun to watch.

I'm actually surprised Caf went back to the zone in the second half, but it worked. The zone allowed UNI to get their outside shooting started in the first half after they were down 10 or so. But it worked in the second half. I have a feeling Caf has good instincts.

One of the bullet points in my preview was this one:
Guard the Perimeter. The Panthers love the deep ball. They aren’t shooting it well on the year (28.3%), but they shoot it a lot (45% of the FGA are 3PA). Iowa has struggled guarding the perimeter in previous games [see Wake Forest]. Iowa’s zone can be effective guarding the trey, but if it’s not, McCaffery needs to be flexible enough to switch to man.

Awesome to see.

Totally agree with this. I thought the zone allowed them to get back into the game in the first half. It worked in the second half because they were missing their 3's. If you can't tell I'm not a big fan of zone D
