It feels over...

There were two big boosters who told Gary Barta at the end of last season if he's ready to fire Ferentz, that they would cover the buyout. All Barta has to do is make the call.

It could be over but would Barta really do it?

Unless I hear a little more about how you "know" about this, I am going to assume this is a load of crap.

Whoever makes any decision on anything or whatnot needs to be careful. Michigan and Nebraska are prime examples of what happens when you tried to get fancy because they feel they need a change or a spark and then mediocre ensues, which Iowa is at right now. Hopefully, Kirk and the gang spend the next 8 months deciding that what works here is a solid, powerful run game and I hope that becomes clear, because neither Greene or Betts are walking thru that door.
Kirk should be spending the next 8 months looking for a job, not anything to do with this program. It's friggin year 16 and we have no identity as a team. Absolutely no talent coming in to make things better either. He should be done here now, period.

You couldn't be more right Spider. I have been over Kirk since 2010, but it seems like the rest of the fanbase is now over him as well. It feels a lot like the end of Mr. Davis's Era too.
I don't know what it is with Iowa programs but we hold onto to the coaches for so long due to past results that they end up becoming villains at the end of their tenure and basically get forced out.
I'm not sure KF has the gonads to go thru another season like this. Let's face it, Barta is not gonna fire him and KF is not gonna make it to 2020 either. He is gonna retire, the real question is when. He should do it now, but he will try and hang on for a couple more years but I think he will retire after another disappointing season next year. And with the recent lackluster recruiting, the cupboard will be left pretty bare for whoever the next coach is.
It's obvious to me Kf knows his tenure is coming to an end.
You've been over Kirk since the season after an Orange Bowl win? Bandwagon much?

The time for a change is now. 35 years as a Hawk fan and, besides the final year of the Fry regime, this is the most disconnected I have ever felt about Iowa football. No more excuses. There are NONE. Cut your losses Gary and let's move forward. Next year will be a duplication of this year. There is nothing more to sell. Nothing. Reach an agreement with Kirk and let him ride off into the sunset.

Kirk didn't sound like it in the post-game interview with Dolphin. He was talking about getting ready for next season and said he only really felt bad for the seniors. To me he didn't sound like a coach who had any idea that the walls were closing in on him.

I disagree with that, I think he mentioned Pellini being fired in Neb for 9 win season. He could see the stadium was all orange, and probably knew it was coming and thats why Beathards played.

Keep in mind sometimes its never as bad as it looks, although this feels bad. I don't know if he will do it but if he starts CJB next year, I can see Iowa contending for the West. For these reasons.

1. There will be no expectations but a big chip on the shoulder. I never bought into this in the past but it seems to always happen with Iowa football.
2. If Canzeri and Daniels can stay healthy the running game can be a lot better suite for Iowa. Weisman had his place but he should never have been running wide constantly, he didn't have the athleticism. Even if they have to go to Wadley he has some experience now.
3. DT is the spot Iowa has the most recruited talent to replace the existing starters. Cooper, Johnson & Ekakite were all 4 star recruits and have some experience with Johnson and Cooper a lot.
4. A starting linebacking core of Jewell, Bowers, & Perry with maybe Spearman(although he would probably be a better DE) is better than this year's starting linebacker core.
5. I think Iowa could be better at every spot next year except OT & DT, but I think DT's can fill the position well see point #3.
6. If 2015 goes well many of those players are back for 2016 but unfortunately then conversely see point #1.

***Unfortunately, I could also see CJB transferring or KF going with Rudock and Iowa going 6-6 or something like that.

Of course there are two boosters ready. We're blaming Barta now?

Sport, if the money or desire is there, it would have already been done.

Nope no bandwagon at all. The way that season unfolded and went down it left such a bad taste in my mouth that I voiced openly and regularly since that that the 09 team won in spite of Kirk. He was awful that year and the program has been in a downward spiral since. No other staff can do less with more and less with less for that matter. That season alone soured me on him and I have never wavered on that position.
If you could not see where this program was going when 2010 unfolded then that is on you. I hardly consider it bandwagoning. The fact remains that KF has worn out his welcome and it started in 2010. This season was almost as disappointing as 2010. With favorable schedule and returning players this should not have been the dumpster fire it was.

After thinking about it for a day,I must accept that Iowa has become a mid level MAC type team.
That is being generous and is said with apologies to the MAC conference.

The talent level is not there and I do not see any way this coaching staff can be successful at Iowa unless you redefine success at some lower and much more irrelevant level.

I think you make some valid points, and I agree that we could be better at many positions. However, the overall talent level is down. The LB group would have trouble starting at a MAC school. Really. This is not Big Ten quality. That's on the coaches. I realize that they replaced great LBs, but the overall recruiting level hovers near the bottom of the Big Ten and is usually worse than 50th nationally, which ranks at times beneath Purdue, Indiana, and Illinois.

We can and should do better than that. Talent wins. Everyone works hard. We don't have enough talent, and we don't have innovative coaches. Who wants to come and play for a group like that?

Spot on. You could really see the difference in athletic ability between us and Tennessee. Our guys looked smaller and slower. This is a roster littered with too many walkons and too many MAC-type players. Yesterday it showed... Boy did it.
