ISU vs. Iowa, pillow fight in the trenches

ISU's patchwork offensive line is looking pretty bad against UNI. That isn't unexpected. Iowa's front 7 on defense looked, well, just look at some of the threads on here. Baffling how Parker can be considered the worst coordinator on a team that has greg davis on it. What's scarier is if Iowa doesn't fix the defensive issues asap, they'll have to rely on a greg davis designed offense to outscore people. Scary thought indeed.

I really hope today was because of Jewell. That being said, no way ISU beats us. It looks like they're going to lose to UNI.

Not so fast. Mark Farley isn't coaching D1 cuz he's the worst late game choke artist in CFB. Just a painfully incompetent fool who makes Kurt's late game strategy look like Bill belichick.

We should put King on Lazard. He might be the only player on that team that could possibly beat us.

It is like he googles: how can I possibly lose this game.

Did you just say they might beat us???????????????????

Even drunk my brain understands how insane that sounds.

Teams make their biggest improvement from week one to week 2 so lets hope Iowa makes a big jump and sends the clowns home with a beat down.

I think Iowa has the advantage over Iowa State this week. At least Iowa is coming away with a lot of positives. What can Iowa State say? We almost beat a division 2 team?!!

Obviously Iowa needs better play on the defensive line. Better play opposite King. Better pressure on the QB.
Offense needs to not drop passes. Protect CJ. Establish the run.

The Hawkeyes will dominate the clowns in the trenches. The Iowa defense up front is both hard hitting and opportunistic. I am most impressed with Anthony Nelson. His speed rush off the end will give the clowns fits. Johnson and the outlaw will be controlling things in the middle. This will be a big Iowa win!

I was just thinking about the game next Saturday against the clowns some more. Could it be that Miami is better than the clowns? It seems pretty clear that the clowns will be the bottom feeders of the big 12 this year. They are a mess. Where as Miami is greatly improved to the point where they can be a mid level Mac team with 6 or 7 wins. Last year they played a bunch of good players who were just not ready, but now they are. It is similar to the difference between the 2000 and 2001 Iowa teams.

I don't see Iowa having much of a problem with this clown team at home.

I love all the confidence. But I can't get 2007 out of my head. The talent the Hawkeyes had that year had no place being beat by the Cheez.

I'm dreading the game already. Two years ago Iowa makes a great come back against Ball State and ISU is handled by NDSU. Everyone is picking Iowa to win easy at home... we lose by a late field goal.

I F$CKING hate losing to that GD team.

Iowa needs to put King on Lazard and blitz the $hit out of that inexperienced OL. Iowa was very vanilla in basic D yesterday. Confuse Lanning and that OL and the D will be fine.

Sounds good but when we are the better team, we sit back and let the qb get comfortable and look like Tom Brady. It's what we do. Make no mistakes and we "should" come out on top of a close game is the Kirk moto against bad teams.

It really has been frustrating to watch over the years. We are very reactionary, versus dictating pace of play on defense.

It's obvious we have no pash rush again this year, so blitzing would be helpful. I feel we have the talent in the db backfield to get LBs out of the game when we are spread out

But it's not what we do

Choosing to not be aggressive against bad teams is Kirks biggest downfall as a coach. If you could go back over the last 17 years and take away most of the really bad loses against terrible teams, imagine how good our program would look right now. It all stems from his philosophy of if we play a careful mistake free game, we should win. While that's true, if we play an aggressive game, we should blow them out.

It takes a lot of mistakes to make you lose a game where youre a huge favorite if you come in with the mindset that you're going to outclass them. Now don't get me wrong, there would still be losses in games where the mistakes built up too much. But those losses would be a lot more rare than the ones where you try to be mistake free and eak out a close win.
